The document discusses different input devices that can be used to capture images for a computer. A scanner converts printed images into digital codes that a computer can understand by using lighting and sensors beneath a glass screen. A digital camera electronically captures photos and stores them in memory to transfer to a computer. A camcorder records moving video and converts it to digital data that can be stored and edited on a computer. A webcam sends live video to a computer in real time, often for video chatting or surveillance. Camera phones can capture still photos and video, though their image quality is usually lower than standalone cameras due to smaller sensors and fixed lenses.
2. THE EYES OF YOUR COMPUTER
You can capture your favorite pictures using there different input devices:
A scanner
A digital camera
Camcorder
3. SCANNER
A scanner sees images and convert the printed text or pictures into electronic codes that can
be understood by computer.
With a flatbed scanner, the paper with the image is placed face down on a glass screen similar
to photocopier. Beneath the glass are the lighting and measurement devices.
Once the scanner is activated, it reads the image as a series of dots and generates the digitized
image that is sent to the computer and stored as a file.
4. A colour scanner operates by using three rotating lamps, each of witch has different
coloured filter : red, Green and blue. The resulting three separated images are combined
into one by appropriate software.
5. CAMERA
A digital camera takes pothos electronically and converts them into digital data (binary
codes made up of 1s and 0s).
It doesnt use the film found in a normal camera, instead it has a special light-sensitive
silicon chip.
Photographs are stored in the cameras memory before being sent to the computer. Some
cameras can be also connected to a printer or a TV set. To make viewing images easier.
6. CAMCORDER
A comcorder, or a digital video camera, records moving pictures and converts them into
digital data that can be stored and edited by a computer with special video editing
software.
Digital video cameras are used by home users to create their own movies, or professionals
in computer art and video conferencing.
7. They are also used to send live video images via the internet. Then they are
called Web cameras or webcams.
8. WEBCAM
A webcam is a video camera that feeds its images in real time to a computer or computer network.
Their most popular use is the establishment of video links, permitting computers to act as videophones
or videoconference stations.
The common use as a video camera for the World Wide Web gave the webcam its name. Other popular
uses include security surveillance, computer vision, video broadcasting, and for recording social videos.
9. CAMERA PHONE
A camera phone is a mobile phone which is able to capture still photographs (and usually video). Since
early in the 21st century the majority of mobile phones in use are camera phones.
Most camera phones are simpler than separate digital cameras. Their usual fixed focus lenses and
smaller sensors limit their performance in poor lighting.
