CARBON FOOTPRINT: A DENTISTS PERSPECTIVE
Sustainable means something that can continue for a long time. Making dentistry sustainable is the need of the hour. This notion comes from understanding the relationship between the environmental impact of our healthcare systems. Research indicates that the healthcare industry contributes to various greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, poor air, food, and water quality. It is easy to forget the dental waste generated by households, dental schools, dental offices, and hospitals. A single dental procedure can use more than 20 items, most of which are discarded after the procedure, e.g., single-use items, dental materials, personal protective equipment, disposable instruments, sterilization pouches and more. Now think about all the dental waste generated across the world. We are proud to restore patients oral health, but at what cost?
Thus, as a responsible human being and citizen, oral health professionals should have an obligation to implement environmentally sustainable measures. This presentation would create awareness and delineate certain practices that can be easily adapted to reduce the carbon footprint and save our planet

Editor's Notes
#3: Have you ever thought what happens to the tooth brush you threw last month or the waste we generate doing just one restoration?
the production then usage and then final destination will be some landfill where it will keep degrading there for 100s of years to come.
#6: Climate change and environmental pollution are amongst the greatest threats affecting the planet, humanity, and biodiversity.
