Echocardiography Technician - Externship
Practice Included:
Didactic and Practical Echocardiography.
Introduction to EKG, Holter Monitor, Stress Test.
2. Receives and performs all studies as ordered by the physician. Requests clarification when
indicated & receives new order/script.
Confirms patient identification using 2 patient identifiers. Introduces self and explains each
procedure being performed to the patient/family member or significant other.
Attend to schedule outpatients within 10 minutes of their appointed time, communicating to the
patient &/or secretaries of any unavoidable delays.
Performs all cardiac ultrasound procedures (2D Echo,Color flow,Doppler and Transesophageal)
providing images of diagnostic quality, appropriate measurements & pertinent information
needed for physician interpretation.
Ensure that Echo studies are transferred to digital viewing station and relevant worksheet is
completed for physicians interpretation within 2 hours of performing the study.
Differentiates and demonstrates knowledge of normal/abnormal cardiac anatomy. Is able to
define pathologies of critical nature and informs appropriate medical authoritiy according to
Critical Value Policy.
Maintaining consistent workflow, flexing where & as needed maintaining a 90% daily
productive standard. Show initiative in completing tasks outside of normal scope of assignment .
Maintaining all equipment in a clean and serviceable condition, is able to troubleshoot minor
equipment problems related to use. Reports any malfunctions to manager or appropriate source
for service to avoid significant downtime.
