Career strategy
Helps in identifying the strengths &
    weaknesses of an individual.
Helps to utilize strengths & overcome
weaknesses in order to take advantage of
    career opportunities.
The process of career strategy is
conceptually similar to that of an
    organizational strategy.
Helps in determining the direction of the
professional career, by answering the some
of the questions, that arise within the
  managers.
Such as,
Am I an introvert or an extrovert ?
What are my attitudes toward time,
  achievement, work, material things &
  change?
In real life, people often resist career
    planning because it involves making
    decisions.
Likewise managers also resist goal setting
because of the uncertainities in the
    environment.
They also possess the fear of failing to
    achieve goals.
   Identification of career goals:
-Goal setting is a continuous process
that is flexible, & can be revised according
    to the changing circumstances.

Integration of long-term aims with the more
    immediate requirement of action.
   Planning in advance.
          - The time frame for career planning
    will differ with the circumstances.
Factors required to be taken into account,
        - economic
        - social
        - political
        - technological
        - demographic
Working in an expanding company provides
more career opportunities than working in a
company that is not expected to grow.

   Successful career planning requires a
systematic scanning of the environment for
opportunities & threats, this can be done
    with the help of forecasting.
   The environmental opportunities & threats
must be matched with the strengths &
weaknesses of individuals for the successful
    career planning.

Conceptual / design Skills- Top managers
   Human Skills- All levels

order to take advantage of opportunities.
That is, it helps to overcome the weakness &
develop the skills to take advantage of
    opportunities.
It also helps in recognising the threats in the
environment & develop a strategy to cope
    with them.
It is a logical & systematic analysis of the
    career planning process that involves
    personal preferences, ambitions & values.

Alternative choices must be chosen rationally
because some alternatives may involve high
    risks, others low risks.
Some choices demand action now and others
    can wait.

This choosing up of alternatives gains
importance because, the careers that were
popular in the past may have an uncertain
    future.
The long-term strategic career plan needs to
be supported by short-term objectives &
    action plans.

Eg: The aim of achieving an M.B.A degree
requires the completion of the short-term
objective such as number of courses.
Contigency plans are required for the
development of career plans in an
    environment of uncertainity.

These plans should be prepared based on the
    alternative assumptions.
It deals with the persons growth &
    development in career planning.

Career goals & personal ambitions can be
considered in selecting & promoting & in
    designing, training & development programs.
It helps in evaluating the progress toward
career goals & making necessary corrections
    in the aims or plans.

The progress should be monitored even
during the completion of an important task
    or project.
