Carpooling has environmental and economic benefits, but many college students only use it for social occasions like parties rather than commuting regularly. At the University of Rhode Island, where half of students commute and often live with roommates, carpooling could significantly reduce the number of vehicles driven if groups of roommates traveled together to campus. In addition to lowering carbon emissions, carpooling also saves money on gas and maintenance costs that can be split between riders rather than paid solely by one driver. The document advocates for students, faculty, and staff at URI to form regular carpooling groups, especially among those living nearby, to both help the environment and their wallets through reduced solo driving.

1. Car poolingCar pooling is something very beneficial considering transportation but how do most college kids use it? They use it when going to parties. Car pooling is more beneficial than just commuting to parties. What about using it for class? What about carpooling to work? What about car pooling to Providence and Christmas shop together? Yeah, everyone
2. has heard that its great to car pool but most people dont know the specific ways it helps the environment and how it can benefit you.Having a car costs a significant amount of money and half of the students that attend the University of Rhode Island commute to the school. These students live with at least two roommates and can being living with up to six roommates in one house and they all attend the University. All of those people
3. living in one house should consider and actually car pooling to school. If six people are living in one house in Narragansett, Rhode Island there is no need for six cars because guaranteed half of the time the people who live here are going to be at the same place and time he majority of the time. It not only makes sense that roommates are going to the same place
4. because theyre friends and therefore there is no need for all the separate car use. Economically carpooling only benefits the owner of the car and the people who are joining the ride it costs a significant less amount of money. The prices of gas cost approximately three dollars and change for the gallon. The gas price is always changing and for the most part it is always going up.
5. And keeping up with the matienceof a car is expensive and none of this is including the insurance. By car pooling you are not putting in the full twenty or thirty dollars that it costs to pay for the gas. You can split costs that for a repair because all of you use one car.And of course it helps the environment if there are fewer cars on the road. With fewer cars on the road they are helping to cut down
6. on the carbon emissions polluting the air. We know that completely cutting out driving cars is unrealistic but cutting down on the amount of cars is possible. Car pooling is part of that solution. Not only does it mean less carbon emissions but less car accidents because there are fewer cars on the road. And if the person that you are car pooling with or sharing the car with has a car that runs on alternate fuel would be even more
7. beneficial. And therefore all the travels that are made in the car would be doing less harm to the environment. Not only University students should consider car pooling but the staff and professors who travel there should consider car pooling if they live near another person on the staff. Especially
8. if they have similar schedules it would be helpful and beneficial if they could team up and help the environment. This would cut down on a decent amount of the carbon emissions being exposed to the air and contributing to global warming. The goal is to keep fewer cars on the road by carpooling and using the University as a starter way to do that if you have not already.
