This case discusses a preterm infant born at 24 weeks gestation and 1770 grams who was admitted to the intensive care unit with pneumonia and metabolic acidosis. Over the course of treatment, the infant's respiratory status and metabolic acidosis improved. Care included antibiotics, respiratory support, and intravenous sodium bicarbonate to treat electrolyte imbalances. After two weeks of care, the infant's condition continued to stabilize.
