- 1. ELEVATOR SIMULATION The Acme Insurance Company wants to build a 12-story office building and equip it with the latest elevator technology. The company wants you to build a software simulator that models the operations of the buildings elevators to see if they will meet the traffic flow needs within the building. The building is to have five elevators, each of which is capable of reaching all 12 floors of the building. Each elevator has an approximate capacity of six adult passengers. The elevators are designed to be energy efficient, so they only move when necessary. Each elevator has its own door, floor indicator light, and control panel. The control panel contains destination buttons, door open and close buttons, and an emergency signal button. Every floor in the building has a door for each of the five elevator shafts and an arrival bell for each door. The arrival bell signals an elevators arrival at a floor. A signal light, located above each door, signals the elevators arrival and the direction the elevator is traveling. Each floor also has three sets of elevator call buttons. A person summons an elevator by pressing the appropriate call button (up or down). A scheduler tasks one of the five elevators to go to the floor where the call originated. Upon entering the elevator, a passenger typically presses one or more destination buttons. As the elevator travels from floor to floor, an indicator light inside the elevator keeps the passengers informed as to the elevators location. An elevators arrival at a floor is signaled by illuminating the indicator light above the external elevator door, and sounding the floor bell. Whenever an elevator stops at a floor, both sets of doors are automatically opened for a pre-designated interval of time, allowing passengers to enter and exit the elevator. The simulator uses a clock to simulate the passage of real time and to time stamp and log events as they occur in the simulation. A random number generator is used by the simulator to create passengers, and determine departure and arrival floors for each passenger.

Once its their turn, the customer has to verify their identity and provide the tracking number sent in the email or text message in order to receive the item. The agent finds the package with the tracking number that matches what the customer gave and verifies the identity of the customer, then the customer is given their item and can then leave the store.
