? Since 2004, Eloah Rocha has served as a youth
counselor at Los Angeles Children¡¯s Hospital.
She manages a youth activity center for the
siblings of patients under hospital care. Apart
from her work at one of America¡¯s top-ranked
children¡¯s hospitals, Eloah Rocha is active in LA
triathlon events, including the Catalina Island
Triathlon.
Roughly 30 miles southwest of downtown Los
Angeles, across the Gulf of Santa Catalina from
Huntington Beach, Catalina Island is the
location of the annual Catalina Island Triathlon,
held each November since 1985.
? Starting at the Green Pier at Avalon Bay,
triathletes race to achieve the best possible
time by swimming a half mile around the pier
and then cycling three circuits along the
Catalina coast for a total distance of 15
kilometers at a cumulative elevation gain of
477 feet. Following that, competitors run a 3.1-
mile course out to the Catalina Casino and
then up Country Club Drive to an altitude of
280 feet before descending back down to the
finish line at Green Pier. Male, female, and co-
ed heats are conducted during the triathlon
event, accommodating competitors from age
14 to over 80 years old.
