YachadCatalog2015-2016
Welcome to Yachad! Yachad has been a dream of the Minneapolis Jewish
community for almost ten years. This dream began with two rabbis over a
cup of coffee. Our community has created and built this amazing program
for and by teens.
Yachad brings together the best that our community has to offer to provide
transformational experiences for our teens. Through Yachad¡¯s dynamic
and engaging environment, teens will grow along their own pathway as
they continue along their Jewish journeys.
A special thank you to our local clergy and their representative Brit Signer
organizations (listed to the right) for their leadership, partnership, and
vision to build a program for teens where we will be better together.

History Through the Lives and
Choices of our Ancestors
The vast majority of American Jews can trace their
lineages to ancestors living in Eastern Europe. Teens
will research their own families¡¯ stories through census,
military, immigration, vital records, and other sources
and then connect their findings to the historical events
occurring in the communities that their ancestors lived
from the mid-19th century to the post World War II era.
Students will learn genealogical research techniques and
will be able to earn college credits through additional
readings, discussions, and assignments. Together we will
learn about Jewish history through the heroic decisions
made by relatives in our past that allow us to exist in the
present. This experience will be offered in a hybrid format
which means that students will meet once a week in a

BETTER TOGETHER ¡ª WHY YACHAD?
Yachad¡¯s mission is to provide the next generation with the knowledge, connection and confidence to en-
gage in Judaism over the course of their lifetimes. We believe our innovative approach will be important as
teens transition from high school to college and eventually to independent adulthood. Yachad¡¯s model will
recreate and enrich existing educational offerings through:
? Curriculum Variety and Options
Providing a wide range of subjects and course structures, including
offerings for college credit.
? Educational Best Practices
Engaging students using methodologies which both deepen and
accelerate learning.
? Smaller Class Sizes
Combining resources to allow for a smaller student/teacher ratio.
? Community ¡ª Everyone¡¯s Welcome
Bringing together teens from across Minneapolis to create a new
social context.
? Self-Determined Jewish Educational Journeys
Empowering teens to be accountable for their own Jewish journeys.
