The letter thanks Salem Afeworki for their contribution as a Fellow for the Climate CoLab Adaptation to Climate Change contest in 2014. It notes that the 2014 contest period was successful, receiving 582 proposals that resulted in 64 finalists and 34 winners. Approximately 14,000 votes were cast and the Climate CoLab community doubled in size. The 34 winners presented at the Crowds & Climate conference in November at MIT, which over 200 people attended in person and 1,000 watched online. Dear Salem Afeworki,
On behalf of the MIT Center for Collective Intelligence's Climate CoLab, I would like to
thank you for the invaluable contribution you made as a Fellow for the Climate CoLab
Adaptation to Climate Change contest in 2014.
All evidence indicates that the 2014 contest period was a great success. Collectively,
the 18 contests received 582 proposals, from which 64 finalists and 34 winners were
chosen. Approximately 14,000 votes were cast during the public online voting period,
and the Climate CoLab community doubled from 15,000 to over 33,000 members. The
34 winners presented their proposals and connected with potential implementers at our
Climate CoLab conference, Crowds & Climate: From Ideas to Action, held in November
at the MIT campus. Over 200 people attended the conference in person, and an
additional 1,000 watched the proceedings online.
It is clear that this development would not have been possible without the commitment
of our Fellows. We hope you know how much we appreciate the time you spent and
your sustained commitment.
We also hope that this event is the beginning of a lasting relationship with the Climate
CoLab. We would appreciate your feedback and invite you to lend your expertise to our
contests and other future initiatives.
Best Regards,
Thomas Malone
