- 2. Pacing The cuts take a long time to change until the point where the pipe goes through Sarah¡¯s daughter¡¯s head. Here are a group of quickly changing shots chowing the pipes leave the van¡¯s roof, enter the window, come towards the husband¡¯s head and through the seat. Fast pacing is used to cover up the fact that nothing is very frightening and leave the audience to get scared partially by their own imagination when events happen quickly in the film or crawlers show up. Otherwise camera shots take a while to change throughout the movie. The car crash scene is paced quickly because while they shot it, the cars were hardly moving. It is also paced this way for dramatic effect and to put into perspective how quickly events turned for Sarah.
- 3. Transitions The transitions in this film never have any animated effects unless you count the part when the camera zooms out from the crash to show the title. In this case, a fade transition is used to change the scene. The transitions through the rest of the film are simply snap- to the next shot which makes the movie look professional rather than as if it were composed by a ten year old.
- 4. CGI The main computer generated images in this film are green screened. An example of this is the car¡¯s windshield. The glass was covered in green to make the two cars approaching each other possible without actually crashing them with the actors inside. This is done very well and looks extremely realistic if minor details such as the lack of continued contrast in focus are not taken into account. As this scene shows, the windshield wiper is very blurry but the car in the distance is too sharp to match the gradient of blurriness caused by the close focus.
