GYNECOLOGIST:
 Obstetrician/gynecologist: An obstetrician is a
physician who delivers babies and is in the practice
of obstetrics while a gynecologist is a physician
who specializes in treating diseases of the female
reproductive organs.
 The word "gynecology" comes from the Greek
"gyno, gynaikos" meaning woman + "logia"
meaning study, so gynecology literally is the study
of women.

GYNECOLOGIST
 These days gynecology does not address all of
women's medicine but focuses on disorders of the
female reproductive organs.
 An obstetrician/gynecologist is thus a physician
who both delivers babies and treats diseases of the
female reproductive organs.
 Abbreviated commonly as OB/GYN.

Ovum:
 An egg in the ovary of the female. This egg is called
the female "gamete" or sex cell.
 It combines with the male gamete, called a sperm,
to form a zygote.
 This formation process is called "fertilization."

Gestation Period
 The period of development of the young from the
time of conception until birth. For humans the full
gestation period is normally 9 months.
 The word "gestation" comes from the Latin
"gestare" meaning "to carry or to bear."
