DESIGN CONSIDERATION

Can be carried out through experience, analytical methods, process
simulation and modeling, CAD-CAM to improve productivity and reduce
casting defects and resulting in significant cost saving.

General considerations for geometric features, tolerances and mold features

- Design the part with simple shape – easy to cast
- Select a casting process and a material suitable for the part, size,
  mechanical properties
- Locate the parting line of the mold in the part
- Locate and design the gating system (runner, risers, sprue) to allow -
  uniform feeding of the mold cavity
- Proper control and good practice




Redesign of a casting by making the parting line straight to avoid defects.
