This document describes the basic moves of each chess piece: pawns can move forward one square at a time, rooks move in straight lines of any length, knights move in an L-shape of two squares and one to the side, bishops move diagonally of any length, queens combine the moves of rooks and bishops, and kings move one square in any direction.

3. Pawn - Move forward in a straight line, one square at a time. The pawns first move is special. You have the option of moving one or two squares
4. Rook - A rook moves in straight lines along the ranks and files. It cannot move diagonally.
5. Knight - A knight can move in any direction: forward, backward or to the sides. It always moves in an L-shape: two squares in a straight line and then one to the side.
6. Bishop - A bishop moves diagonally backward and forward. It can move as many squares at a time as it likes.
7. Queen - The queen can move in any one direction for any number of squares.
8. King - Can move in any direction, but only one square at a time.
