In 1888, Christopher Bubble invented the "Bubble machine" to make chewing gum and help children take their medicine more easily. The machine created the first chewing gums by combining flavorless powder, flavor shots, and medicine shots. By 1901, over 1 million machines had been sold. However, in the early 1900s new companies exploited the gum habit by adding sugar and abandoning health benefits. In 2013, entrepreneurs rediscovered Bubble's invention and relaunched the Bubble machine to produce homemade chewing gums again.
