Editor's Notes

• #3: We traveled from Thomas University to Atlanta for our first flight. From Atlanta we traveled to Chicago and from there we endured approximately a 14 hr. flight to Beijing, China.
• #4: We spent the first day recuperating from our journey and adapting to our new surroundings.China is located in Eastern Asia with its capitol city in Beijing. There are 23 provinces: Anhui, Fujian, Gansu, Guangdong, Guizhou, Hainan, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Zhejiang and Taiwan. According to the 2010 Census Questionnaire, China’s population of July 2012 is estimated at 1,343,239,923, giving them the title of most populated country in the world. Motor vehicle accidents in China were said to yield greater than 500 deaths daily. The city was noticeable busy by the high volumes of traffic and the numerous people within the streetsDue to the overpopulation, the use of the one child policy has been instilled since 2007.
• #5: BeijingAnTaiJiayuan Hospital: Natural Births are not favorable among Chinese women according to education we received from one the Doctors at the facility. Water birthing options are one of the measures that they provide at this facility to help with increasing natural birth numbers. Nursing at this facility is extremely different from the United States. The uniform style is similar to the traditional look of nursing. Many of the bedside nurses are specialty trained but not many at this facility had bachelorette degrees. Shifts were typically eight hour and rotated between days and nights.Tiananmen Square & The Forbidden City:In the upper-left corner of the Chinese flag there are five-pointed yellow stars, the big one represents the Communist Party of China and the four smaller ones represents the people from the various groups: farmers, workers, teachers, and soldiers. A monument in the Tiananmen Square also symbolized these groups. The Forbidden City was built during the Ming Dynasty. It had been the imperial home of 24 emperors of the Ming dynasty 1368-1644 and Qing dynasty 1644-1911 (The Forbidden City).
• #6: Summer PalaceThe Summer Place was one of my favorite locations for its breathtaking scenery. Great WallAccording to Random facts, The Great Wall of China is the longest man-made structure in the world. The main wall is around 2,145 miles (3,460 km) along with an extra 1,770 miles (2,860 km) of spurs and branches ( The Great Wall of China ).I was fortunately able to make it to the top of one of the towers, the stairs were uneven and steep and I can imagine all the years of work that took to create this worldly wonder.
• #7: The Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital practiced both forms of medicine and the Nurses are trained in both western and traditional medicine. This facility consisted of 300 beds and 33 medical departments. They treat mainly chronic conditions with Their busiest specialty being acupressure.The night of theater was amazing, by far my favorite part of the trip. I enjoyed the dance routines, they not only were beautifully conducted but helped display different times in Chinese history.
• #8: The Chinese Medicine market was filled with many of the similar herbs that were present at the Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital. We had the opportunity to try some of the spices and even purchase to attempt these herbal remedies at homeThe Terra Cotta Warriors is a collection ofsculptures modeled after the first Emperor of China. We had the opportunity to learn of its history and the great discovery of this worldly wonder. After seeing the exhibit we sampled various teas used for different purposes in the Chinese culture.
• #9: Unfortunatelyour plane ride ended shortly and we had to land in Hangzhou. We initially believed our flight changes were related to bad weather in Shanghai but later came to the actualization that it was related to airport security. After frustration and worry we finally established a bus ride to Shanghaicity late that night. No sight seeing was completed but we had a late diner and turned into bed early to resume are touring the morning.
• #10: Silk FactoryThe silkworm cultivation began 5000 years ago in China.Silkworms natural food plant is the mulberry tree “To gather silk from cocoons, boil intact cocoons for five minutes in water turning them gently. Remove from the water and using a dissecting needle or similar tool, begin to pick up strands” (Silkworm Information). We spent the remainder of the day enjoying the local markets and reminiscing on the wonderful experience and knowledge we gained in China.
• #11: This was an amazing experience and I am very grateful that I was able to be apart of it. I not only had a great time but took away a vast amount of knowledge and new perspective on China.
