Choosing between a tablet and a laptop
1. Choosing Between a Tablet and a
Laptop

2. Choosing between the two is a matter of which attributes a user places
more importance on. For users that play full-fledged video games
and/or watch Blu-ray movies, the decision is easier (laptops, in case
you were wondering). For more casual consumers, however, the choice
is harder to make.
In an effort to make things easier for casual computer users, below are
the most pertinent deciding factors, along with which portable PC
holds the advantage for each.
3. The Control Method
This should be the most obvious difference between the two. If we
have to simplify things, laptops can be considered desktops which
just happen to be portable. This means that the
Functionality of programs that run on desktops
The keyboard
And mouse type of control
Necessary to operate them carry over to laptops as well.
4. Tablets, on the other hand, are designed to be more:
≒On-the-Go.
The control interface is designed to be quicker and more intuitive;
hence
The touch-control method they employ.
If you prefer to take things quick and easy, go with tablets. If you
prefer total control, laptops would suit you better.
5. The Size
Laptops may be bulkier than tablets, but the power of their laptop
components more than make up for it. On the flipside, tablets were
designed with extreme portability very high on the goals list. If the
ability to carry a computer in the easiest way possible matters to you,
tablets win this round.
6. The Battery Life
Another advantage that less powerful specs gives to tablets is that
they have longer battery lives. Laptop parts require more resources,
sucking more juice out of their batteries.
If you find yourself away from wall sockets more often than not, you
may want to give tablets serious consideration.
7. The Storage Space
Smaller casings leave less room for
airflow to cool heat-generating
computer parts, so the smaller a
computers chassis, the less
powerful (and less likely to generate
heat) its hardware should be.
Tablets use solid state drives instead
of hard disk drives because
The former perform faster
Giving off less heat in the process.
However, the current technology level is such that SSDs can only carry
so much info. Their storage capacity is significantly less than those of
HDDs, many of which can contain terabytes of data.
Laptops, with their larger chassis, are outfitted with HDDs (at least,
laptops bigger than ultraportables are). Therefore, they can carry much
more data.
8. The Price
At first glance, tablets seem to be the better deal, with most prices
coming to around $500. Meanwhile, laptop prices can range from $400
to $2,000, depending on size and power level.
A closer look, however, will tell you that pound-for-pound
functionality-wise, both types of portable PCs are pretty much evened
out. If youre really budget-conscious, you would be better off
comparing the prices of laptops against other laptops; and the same
goes for tablets.
All things considered, with both machines, you generally get what you
pay for.
