Chrissy Erhayel
multi-disciplined fine artist
fine art portfolio | 2013
There was once an unfortunate separation in the fine art world that derived from bias and superiority. A
graphic designer received a different kind of public respect versus a sculptor, or a tattoo artist versus a
painter. Fortunately, times are changing, and cross-disciplined artists are receiving more praise from
each other; a nice breath of fresh air has arrived into the art community.
My goal is to create artwork that does not fall into a distinctive clause or subsection of the art world and
I aim to engender each of my pieces to be a distinct creation. Having a distinct "style" of rendering is the
least important aspect. The most important aspect, in fact, is the ability to envelope the viewer inside a
subtle story. I create using modern, graphic, and traditional printmaking techniques, pen and ink
methods, traditional drawing and painting methods, and integrate performance art within social
experimentation.
The content of the work is illustrative in nature, yet, with the inclusion of music lyrics, poetic
elements, and the integration of the english language, slight narratives come alive. Via hand-lettering
and typography, I create a parallel to my past graphic design influence. Being apart of the punk and
hardcore music scene has also brought such influence to my work. The dramatic emotion of heavy
bridges and ominous choruses can be seen deviantly through my pen strokes.
The most influential part about creating is receiving the public's opinion of it. Regardless of age or
experience level, there is always room for improvement and I believe no one can ever receive maximum
efficiency as an artist. These beliefs relate back to the modern art world and current open criticisms
between specific realms of art.
