Christmas traditions differ between Poland and Great Britain. In Great Britain, homes and buildings are decorated with holly, ivy, and mistletoe. Large Christmas light displays are switched on in early November, often by a famous person. On Christmas Day, the queen gives a televised speech in the evening. The main Christmas meal is roast turkey and trimmings eaten in the afternoon. In Poland, Christmas is considered the most important holiday. People do extensive Christmas cleaning and fast before the first star on Christmas Eve. The Christmas Eve supper includes an extra place setting for an unexpected guest and sharing a wafer to wish good health and happiness. The evening ends with a midnight church service.
