This document summarizes a keynote presentation about future opportunities in color science and imaging. It discusses moving from benchtop spectrophotometers to integrating color measurement in printers. It also explores printing flexible displays, digital textiles, and using machine learning to automatically name colors in images at a pixel level. The presentation raises questions about new types of colorants beyond dyes and pigments that could be enabled by nanotechnology.
Color Theory and the Making of MonotoneNoel Jackson
油
The document discusses color theory and how to create a monotone theme. It begins by asking what color is and what makes a good color. It then explains how color is perceived by the eye and displayed on screens. The document outlines different color modes like RGB, CMYK, hexadecimal, and HSB. It also discusses color profiles and how RGB lights can be mixed on different levels to create different colors. In under 3 sentences, the summary covers the key topics and questions the document explores about color theory and creating a monotone theme.

This document provides an overview of a lunch and learn session on color theory. It introduces key concepts like the color wheel, primary/secondary/tertiary colors, complementary colors, analogous colors, and the three attributes used to describe any color - hue, value (lightness/darkness), and intensity (brightness). The session objectives are to gain understanding of color theory, develop fluency in describing colors, make color wheels, and have fun participating in color-related activities.
This document outlines a color-coded zone system for managing student concussions with 5 zones of increasing activity:
Zone 1 (Red) indicates no school, rest at home with no academics, work, or physical activity. Zone 2 (Orange) allows partial school attendance with instructional modifications and limited activity. Zone 3 (Yellow) is full school day attendance with modifications as needed. Zone 4 (Blue) is full attendance with limited modifications and increasing workload. Zone 5 (Green) indicates full participation with no modifications needed and clearance for athletics. The zones provide structured guidance for gradual return to learning and activities as recovery progresses.
This document provides an overview of basic color theory concepts. It discusses the color wheel and primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. It explains that black absorbs all colors while white reflects all colors. Complementary colors are directly across from each other on the color wheel, while analogous colors are adjacent. Monochromatic color schemes use tints and shades of a single color. Warm colors tend to advance visually while cool colors recede. Color is influenced by its surroundings and can affect mood. The document also covers color systems for print versus screens, color meanings, and readability through color contrast.
The document discusses color theory, specifically color mixing and the RGB and CMYK color systems. It explains that RGB is the additive color system used for light-based displays like computer monitors, and involves mixing red, green, and blue light. CMYK is the subtractive color system used for printing, and involves mixing cyan, magenta, yellow, and black pigments. Secondary and tertiary colors are produced by mixing primary colors in both systems. The document provides examples of mixing specific color combinations to produce other hues.

The document provides instructions for learning about the concept of Notan, which is the Japanese term for the relationship between dark and light in design. It will cover the artistic elements of positive and negative space, geometric and organic shapes, and symmetry and asymmetry. Students will then examine works by architect Frank Gehry to analyze how he incorporates these Notan concepts. Finally, students will view examples of Notan squares and create their own by cutting shapes from a black paper square and gluing the cutouts in mirrored positions.

The document discusses the current state of funding in the biotech industry. It notes that mergers and acquisitions have become a more common exit strategy for venture-backed biotech companies than IPOs due to the challenging IPO market. Total venture capital investment in biotech remained high at $7 billion in 2007, despite falling pre-money valuations and fewer IPOs. Partnerships and collaborations with large pharmaceutical companies are also increasingly important sources of funding and validation for smaller biotech companies.

In this original Digital Art and Philosophy class, we will become familiar with different forms of digital art and related philosophical issues. Digital art is anything related to computers and art such as using a computer to create art or an art display that is digitized. Philosophical aspects arise regarding art, identity, performance, interactivity, and the process of creation. Students may respond to the material in essay, performance, or digital art work (optional). Instructor: Melanie Swan. Syllabus: www.MelanieSwan.com/PCA
Computer generated imagery (CG) has advanced significantly over recent decades. Early CG sounded synthetic but now most music incorporates digital elements while sounding organic. Similarly, CG techniques that were previously unusable can now be applied due to faster computing. While major studios drive innovation through blockbuster films, techniques also transfer between movies, games, TV and ads due to shared development platforms and artists. As the industry matures, more realistic virtual characters and complex simulations of phenomena like hair and liquids are achievable through increased collaboration between technical and creative professionals.

Webinar: LF Energy GEISA: Addressing edge interoperability at the meterDanBrown980551
油
This webinar will introduce the Grid Edge Security and Interoperability Alliance, or GEISA, an effort within LF Energy to address application interoperability at the very edge of the utility network: meters and other distribution automation devices. Over the last decade platform manufacturers have introduced the ability to run applications on electricity meters and other edge devices. Unfortunately, while many of these efforts have been built on Linux, they havent been interoperable. APIs and execution environment have varied from one manufacturer to the next making it impossible for utilities to obtain applications that they can run across a fleet of different devices. For utilities that want to minimize their supply chain risk by obtaining equipment from multiple suppliers, they are forced to run and maintain multiple separate management systems. Applications available for one device may need to be ported to run on another, or they may not be available at all.
GEISA addresses this by creating a vendor neutral specification for utility edge computing environments. This webinar will discuss why GEISA is important to utilities, the specific issues GEISA will solve and the new opportunities it creates for utilities, platform vendors, and application vendors.

28. Digital Presses @ MOMA
In the digital realm
it is no longer
possible for a
photographer or
printer to develop an
intuitive grasp of
materials and
processes simply by
using them.

31. Q: What do you mean, your
computer is better at naming colors
than you are?

32. Machine Color Naming
Every pixel gets a color name
Color, the only meaningful cognitive category for a single
pixel
Based on large scale corpus of color names
collected online
Basis for lexical image processing
My computer knows more color names and color
name boundaries than I do.
In fact it taught me chartreuse.

33. Q: So the color naming debate is not
just about the universalist versus
relativist philosophical argument?
