The short quote encourages people to look for what is missing rather than just focusing on improving existing things, as many people know how to improve what is there but few can identify opportunities that are not obvious. It was adapted from a quote by Donald Rumsfeld and attributed to Bill Swanson, CEO of Raytheon Company. The document provides the source and author of the adapted quote.
The document discusses key concepts for stoichiometric calculations including:
- Stoichiometric amount, excess reagent, limiting reagent, theoretical yield, actual yield, and percentage yield.
- Reacting masses, volumes of gases, and volumes and concentrations of solutions can be calculated from chemical formulae and equations.
- Avogadro's Law relates equal volumes of gases to equal moles at the same temperature and pressure.
- Common combustion reactions of hydrocarbons are presented.
This document is a slideshow celebrating Debbie and Tim's 10th wedding anniversary. It consists of over 30 quotes describing different aspects of marriage, including that marriage is a union, companionship, understanding each other's faults, caring for each other, kindness, support, communication, sacrifice, learning from each other, respect, and discovery. The overall message is that marriage can be the most satisfying and strengthening experience when built on these foundations.
The document discusses interpreting ionization energy (IE) data to determine an element's electronic configuration. It states that a large jump in IE indicates removal of an electron from an inner shell, while a small jump indicates removal from an inner subshell. It provides an example of using IE data to deduce an element is in group 5 with a possible configuration of 1s22s22p5. It also shows how the electronic configuration of magnesium can be used to sketch its IE trend by determining what type of electron is removed at each stage.
The document discusses definitions and approaches to technology integration in education. It defines technology integration as incorporating technology resources and practices into daily school routines, work, and management. It notes that for technology to positively impact achievement, it must be used regularly as part of instruction rather than as a supplemental add-on. The document also contrasts two approaches to technology integration - as an instructional resource that fosters critical thinking and connected learning versus an extension tool that is disconnected from the curriculum. It argues that integrating technology prepares students for global collaboration and that educators should focus on creating learning communities that incorporate technology.
The document outlines Chad Haefele's presentation on developing successful mobile library services. It discusses analyzing the modern mobile landscape, designing a mobile presence through various building blocks, and hands-on development of a mobile site. The presentation covers surveying users, choosing a platform of app vs. web app, frameworks, integrating data sources, custom code, catalog options, promotion strategies, and evaluation. It provides examples from the UNC mobile site and discusses future trends like HTML5 features and geolocation.

This document provides an introduction to intellectual property (IP) law, including basic terminology and how IP works. It discusses that IP strikes a balance between competition and incentivizing creativity/innovation. Laws like patents and copyrights protect investments in intellectual assets (IAs) by granting exclusive rights, while also restricting competition. The Statute of Monopolies of 1623 is discussed as balancing these interests, abolishing monopolies but allowing limited-term patents for new inventions.
This document outlines the Gay Straight Alliance project which aims to promote safe neighborhoods for all residents through preventing and efficiently addressing incidents. The project runs from 2012-2014 and involves organizations focused on LGBT rights, housing, elderly advocacy, and the police. Key activities include developing a social emergency plan for LGBT-specific incidents, creating a database of best practices, launching a website to connect these resources, supporting innovative local initiatives, and seeking a national covenant to commit partners to sustainable efforts. The overall goal is to build on existing work to make neighborhoods safe and resources accessible for all.

The city of Leningrad (now known as St. Petersburg) endured a brutal siege by German forces during World War 2 from 1941 to 1944. Over the course of the nearly 900-day siege, as many as 1.5 million civilians died from starvation and bombardment. This document presents a case study on applying Six Sigma methodology to streamline the financial reporting process within the finance department of a major defense contractor. The goal of the project, called Continuing Account Reconciliation Enhancement (CARE), was to standardize and document the process for establishing and maintaining costing and planning within the current financial management system. Applying Six Sigma's DMAIC framework, the team mapped the existing process, identified inefficiencies, standardized procedures, and achieved significant reductions in cycle time and cost per report produced. The results showed Six Sigma can successfully be applied beyond manufacturing to optimize business processes in other functions like finance.

1. Alternate reality games (ARGs) are immersive storytelling experiences that use the real world as a publishing medium and involve collaborative puzzle solving by players.
2. ARGs have been used to promote movies, games, and albums through interactive online and real-world experiences. They can also be self-sustaining games without a commercial purpose.
3. ARGs involve different tiers of play from online puzzles and interactions to live events, and can be either synchronous experiences for players to collaborate together or asynchronous for players to participate independently.
Alternate reality games (ARGs) are immersive storytelling experiences that use the real world as a platform. They incorporate multimedia puzzles and live events to tell collaborative stories. ARGs promote products but can also be used for serious purposes like education. They expose players to new ideas and skills in an engaging way without forcing learning. ARGs could be an effective method for cross-disciplinary learning and building community on a college campus.

Webinar: LF Energy GEISA: Addressing edge interoperability at the meterDanBrown980551
?
This webinar will introduce the Grid Edge Security and Interoperability Alliance, or GEISA, an effort within LF Energy to address application interoperability at the very edge of the utility network: meters and other distribution automation devices. Over the last decade platform manufacturers have introduced the ability to run applications on electricity meters and other edge devices. Unfortunately, while many of these efforts have been built on Linux, they haven¨t been interoperable. APIs and execution environment have varied from one manufacturer to the next making it impossible for utilities to obtain applications that they can run across a fleet of different devices. For utilities that want to minimize their supply chain risk by obtaining equipment from multiple suppliers, they are forced to run and maintain multiple separate management systems. Applications available for one device may need to be ported to run on another, or they may not be available at all.
GEISA addresses this by creating a vendor neutral specification for utility edge computing environments. This webinar will discuss why GEISA is important to utilities, the specific issues GEISA will solve and the new opportunities it creates for utilities, platform vendors, and application vendors.
