Unmet Needs
1. The need to showcase a different medium to highlight issues that
are crippling families and communities across the globe.
2. The need for an event with the capacity to increase the profile of
social issues and broaden the audience of individuals exposed to
those issues.
3. The need for artists and sponsors to have a formal network where
they can work together to promote social change and expand their
brand, their networks and increase their positive exposure.
4. The need for a funding mechanism to incentivize the production of
films that heighten public consciousness and promote social action.

awareness of social issues and feature them at CISCFF.

the festival:

 Print: press releases; fliers; posters; save the date invitations;

 Web: youtube.com; Ustream; CISCFF website;
 Radio: advertise on NPR and various fm and am outlets.
2. Buzz Building Events:
 CISCFF film pre-screenings: at universities, community centers and other venues;
 Art exhibits: related to topics covered in films;
 Competitions: with smaller prizes to generate interest (i.e., hack-a-thons, creating films in a
24 hour period, etc.).
3. Word of mouth advertisement from CISCFFs partners:
 Contests: filmmaker, community organization, sponsor or individual who get the most
likes for CISCFF on facebook or most RSVPs for the event will win prizes.
 Access Board Member Networks: CISCFF board members and community partners will
publicize events as we broaden support for CISCFF.

Creating a formal network where filmmakers, community
organizations and sponsors work together to make a difference:
1. Why filmmakers will participate (as discussed in prior slides).

 A chance to join the advisory board and help CISCFF fulfill its mission;

 A chance to show films that address issues with which the organizations are uniquely familiar;
 A chance to promote their organization and that organizations issues to a broader audience;
 A chance to increase the orgs capacity to continue their work financially or by recruiting
volunteers for direct action or other future efforts during the festival and buzz building events.

Provide funding opportunities for entrepreneurial
filmmakers producing films that promote social action.
1. Offer monetary awards to top filmmakers.
 Cash prizes for best film produced by a novice producer (no schooling or
prior film experience), best student film, best film, and the film that
highlights the greatest area of need in a given community.
2. Create a grant for social change filmmakers.
 Use proceeds (after operating expenses) from CISCFFs fundraising
efforts and from the festival itself to create a grant for which former
festival participants, community organizations, and novice producers and
others can apply.
CISCFFs Next Steps
 Engage community members, service providers, community
organizations and filmmakers regarding the possibility of producing
films and/or being a part of the Advisory Board.
 Engage in a media blitz that entails marketing CISCFF and its
webpages via national, international and www news outlets.
 Select the films that will be featured at the CISCFF.
 Arrange speakers, panels, workshops, performances and networking
receptions that will also take place during CISCFF.
 Provide CISCFF updates to potential festival attendees via Ustream,
youtube, twitter, facebook, blogs and other social media outlets.12

Tentative CISCFF Itinerary
 Evening before CISCFF will be kicked-off with a speaker followed by a networking

 2-3 day film festival at the Gene Siskel Film Center that will feature:
 Film viewings;
 Filmmaking workshops;
 Roundtable, moderated and panel discussions;
 Guest speakers;
 Filmmaking competitions (that take place during the festival) ;
 Concurrent showing of art exhibits related to social change;
 Opportunities to sign-up for direct action efforts to mobilize attendees who are interested in
fighting for social change.
 The entire festival will be covered by news outlets and uStreamed to expand the
scope of individuals that hear, see and learn about the films, attendees, sponsors,
community organizations and, most importantly, the issues discussed at the festival.
 At the conclusion of the festival, there will be an awards ceremony/reception to
honor the films and filmmakers who won the various competitions.
Rules Governing CISCFF Entries
**EACH OF THE BELOW, AND ANY POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS,
ARE SUBJECT TO APPROVAL BY THE ADVISORY BOARD**
 Films previously screened publicly in Chicago, aired on US television outlet prior to the Festival, made
available for purchase on DVD in North America, or are available for continuous online viewing in their
entirety are NOT eligible.
 Please submit a typed or clearly printed entry form or a copy of the online form receipt along with the
submission. The Chicago Social Change International Film Festival is not responsible for incorrect
wording in publications or on awards if the entry form is incorrect or illegible.
 All entries must be either in English or contain English subtitles. Non-English entries submitted without
subtitles are not eligible.
 Students must include proof of student status at the time of production (i.e., copy of student ID,
transcript, etc.).
 Only complete entries (including entry form, $90 payment, and preview DVD screener) will be
considered.
 Films must be completed on or after July 1, 2012.
 A copy of the films must be submitted on DVD. Do not send film prints, master tapes, or other originals.
 Entrant warrants required legal authority to submit the entry into the Festival.

Judging & Selecting Entries
**EACH OF THE BELOW, AND ANY POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS,
ARE SUBJECT TO APPROVAL BY THE ADVISORY BOARD**
 All films will be reviewed by the Chicago International Film Festival Programming Committee. If a film
is selected for screening, the Festival office will contact the entrant by phone or email.
 Any organization that submits a film for review will must have all voting representatives from that
organization recuse themselves when it comes time to vote on whether that film will be amongst those
selected.
 Films selected for the International Feature, DOCUFEST and New Directors Competitions are judged
during the Festival. All other competitive film categories, including the Chicago Award, Film
Competition, and After Dark Competition are judged before the Festival.
 All entrants will be notified on or before September 16, 2012.
 For publication purposes, entries selected will be required to supply 3 (three) high resolution stills from
the film and at least 1 (one) photograph of the film's director. The Festival also requests publicity
materials and a video trailer (if available). Publicity and press materials will not be returned.

1. 20,000-Director: sponsor receives a personalized marketing plan that will include a minimum
of 1st tier logo placement on festival name tags, lanyards, gift bags, banners, programs, print ads,
website link, promotional materials, recognition for your sponsorship level during introductory
remarks during CISCFF activities (sponsor level recognition), the opportunity to speak during the
festival and VIP access.
2. 15,000-Producer: sponsor receives a tailored marketing plan that includes 2nd tier logo
placement on banners, programs, print ads, website link and all promotional materials, sponsor
level recognition, and the opportunity be on a festival panel.
3. 10,000-Assistant Producer: sponsor receives prominent logo placement on banners,
