Cloud Computing Infrastructure: Practical Insights

Editor's Notes

  1. The range of organisations that want to talk about IaaS range from large orgs to small organisations, multi-million 贈s to 贈20KLooking for lower cost (CapEx and OpEx) and green ITCost is less of a factor for large organisations secure flexibility is keySmaller organisations are almost entirely cost-driven and have no CapExTake my entire IT away!I just want to consume my software as a serviceIaaS - does not address the legacy issues enter IT services No real differences between business sectors:Manufacturing still needs ERP systems close to production Councils looking for greater flexibility to be better able to turn on and off IT services for functions (they expect change in education and health)Doubt about the future Reorganisations/growth (creating separate islands) Federated service towers with large outsources to best of breed provider Issues where previous providers towers are not separated (and have a monolithic CMDB that cannot be separated)Everyone has this issue! The future is impossible to predict - IaaS takes this away
  2. The cloud does not change everything in the IT department - but does change the mandate and functionGovernance IT management is still required - to manage the suppliers - to help business unit managers vet and select suitable suppliers in terms of security, compliance, dependability and viability. Determining service-level agreements and if you are buying enough -negotiating better terms.Prepare to change support modelHorizontal functions not vertical silosRedeployment Free skilled staff from routine operations and moves5 year roadmaps dont exist Technology moves too fast to know in detail what will happen beyond 12 -18 monthsCan maintain 3-year high level strategic directions
