Clubfoot is a birth defect where one or both feet are twisted out of normal position, affecting about 1 in 1000 live births with boys more likely than girls. It is caused by a complex interrelationship between bones, ligaments, and muscles in the foot. There are three main types - idiopathic clubfoot which has no known cause, neurogenic clubfoot associated with neurological disorders, and syndromic clubfoot linked to genetic syndromes. Doctors evaluate clubfoot through family history, physical exam, imaging like ultrasound and x-rays, and sometimes CT scans.
