This document discusses automatic segmentation of cardiac MRI scans. It first introduces the challenges of segmenting the left ventricle and myocardium from MRI data. It then describes a 3-phase algorithm that was developed to automatically perform 3D segmentation of the left ventricle cavity and myocardium. Finally, it mentions that future work will focus on extending this approach to 4D (3D over time) segmentation to account for the moving heart.
