Our Agenda: Iowa Core Curriculum Mrs.T.G.¡¯s PLN Suggestions
Iowa Core Curriculum How does it address 21C Literacy? A few specific examples¡
ICC says¡ ¡° By its nature, literacy is social . In being effective critical members of a literacy community , students collaborate with others . Whether it be engaging the ideas of an author or actively discussing and debating issues about their lives with their peers, this collaboration helps students gain an appreciation of themselves, others, and the world . There is a cumulative advantage to the reciprocity of sharing ideas . The more students engage in literacy, the deeper their conceptual understanding and motivation to learn becomes.¡± http://www.corecurriculum.iowa.gov/ContentArea.aspx?C=Literacy

Editor's Notes

  • #5: Iowa Core Curriculum A few specific examples My PLN My journey, how it all began, where I am at, where I would like to be. Suggestions
  • #7: Won¡¯t read whole thing, just underlined parts. Which of those underlined parts are YOU comfortable with yourself as an educator?
  • #13: AND WHAT A WONDERFUL RESOURCE TO HAVE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS!
  • #14: AND WHAT A WONDERFUL RESOURCE TO HAVE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS! This is SO much more than the technology. Tech is ONLY the tool that makes it happen. MOVE TO NEXT SLIDE¡.
  • #15: If you think of teaching as an ¡°Art,¡± than the technology is ONLY the potter¡¯s wheel. You can make clay pots w/out one, but the wheel makes it easier. This is NOT about the technology, it¡¯s about how YOU can create a network to help you TRANSFORM your teaching. I firmly believe that one of our responsibilities as educators to seek out opportunities to grow professionally. The WORLD is now connecting and collaborating. It is TIME for educators to step up, JOIN in those conversations, and collaborate. And now with technology, you can do so on a GLOBAL level!!!
  • #16: Keep in mind that this is NOT about the tech. There will be things that I show you that might contradict something you¡¯ve heard, done, or seen. It¡¯s about creating a personal learning network for yourself and one that works for you. Angela asked me to come and describe my journey. This is it.
  • #19: 50+ followers/ees seems to be the point at which Twitter becomes most useful. Follow ANGELA and Mike!
  • #21: Again, it¡¯s NOT about the tech. There are DOZENS of ways to view RSS feeds¡ªfind one that makes sense to you and dive in!
  • #29: Begin by making it personal. Just like email came alive for many of us when we began using it to communicate with friends and family!
