Carterton Community College held a collaborative meeting on April 15th, 2013 to discuss priorities for the upcoming year, including improving teaching quality, literacy and numeracy levels, consistently following policies, and making the school a more exciting place to learn. Specific strategies proposed were coaching teachers, sharing best practices, reviewing the curriculum, and establishing a working group to determine how to implement upcoming performance-related pay policies once guidance is released.
4. How we will make our
school even better?
• Improve our teaching
• Improve the literacy levels and numeracy levels for
our students
• Follow our policies consistently (they are here to
stay)
• Make our school an even more exciting place to be
underpinned by the belief that our students are
capable of the highest standards
• Get performance related pay right for us within a
culture of trust
5. Improve teaching
Why?
• Because we can be even better
• It is the most important thing we do in our school
• We want students to exceed their potential not just
meet it
How?
• Coaching
• Carterton Code
• Share good practice
6. Improve literacy / numeracy levels
and make the school a more
exiting place to be
Why?
Literacy / numeracy levels are too low on entry. We
want students to look forward to coming to school
How?
Through a curriculum review
7. Use our policies more
consistently
Why?
We believe that our main policies are the correct ones
that will improve our school, they just need to be
used more consistently
How?
8. Performance Management
and Related Pay
Why?
It’s on the horizon and we need to get it right for us.
Major implications for the teaching profession
