and anxiety
Comfort devices are the devices which provide comfort to the
patient.

Comfort devices –
 Cardiac table
 back rest
 Foot board
 Foot blocks
 Air cushions
 Cotton rings
 Hot water bottle
 Bed cradle
 Air/water mattresses
 Sand bags

Cardiac table placed in front of the bed with a pillow on it,
patient can lean forward and take rest.
Table without pillow is used for writing and feeding.
Used for patients with cardiac conditions and asthma.
CARDIACTABLE

Mechanical device which provide a suitable support and rest
for the back of the patient in sitting position.
It is used to support back of the patient.
To facilitate breathing.
BACKREST

Mechanical device used to give rest to feet.
To maintain the normal position of the foot
to promote comfort.
FOOTBOARD

Made up of wood. Placed under the foot of the bed.
To provide traction
to prevent haemorrhage.
To retain enema.
FOOT BLOCKS

Round in shape and made up of rubber.
Used to take off the weight of the body.
Not be directly applied in contact with skin.
To promote comfort to the client.
To relieve pressure on certain parts of the body.
AIR CUSHIONS

Made up of rubber.
To lift the hips from bed to prevent bed sores.
To improve circulation.
Cotton rings are wrapped with bandage.
COTTON OR RUBBER RINGS

Get relieve from muscle and joint pain.
Promote circulation.
Provide comfort to the patient.
HOT WATER BOTTLE

Semi circle in shape.
To prevent the top cloth if coming in contact with the
patient especially burn patient.
BED CRADLE

Used on those who are prone to get pressure sores
it helps in equal distribution of the pressure exerted on the body.
To improve circulation.
To provide comfort.
To prevent pressure sores.
Air and water mattress

Rubber or plastic bags filled with sand
these are used to immobilize the part.
Used to support body part.
Used to support as in fracture bones.
