 HANDS ON METHOD
Training Methods that require the trainee to
be actively involved in learning.
These methods are ideal for developing
specific skills, understanding how skills and
behaviours can be transferred to the job,
experiencing all aspects of completing a task,
or dealing with interpersonal issues that arise
on the job.
On-the-job training is an important
example of an "investment" in
human capital.
On-the-job training is a form of
training provided at the workplace.
During the training, employees are
familiarized with the working
environment they will become part
of.
Employees also get a hands-on
experience using machinery,
equipment, tools, materials, etc.
Part of on-the-job training is to face
the challenges that occur during the
performance of the job
(John M. Barron, Mark C. Berger, Dan A. Black (1997).
Introduction to On-the-Job Training)
Advantages
(UKessays. 2016)
On-the-job training is beneficial for both employers and
employees.
EMPLOYERS
It narrows down and prepares
the skilled employees who are
right for the company. By the
end of the training process, the
company's values, strategy and
goals are introduced and
resulting in an employee's loyalty
to the business.
EMPLOYEES
It allows them to learn a new
skill or qualification within
their field of work in a timely
matter. During on-the-job
training, they are engaged in
the real production process
instead of the simulated
learning process.
(UKessays. 2016)
Disadvantages
When the new employee doesn't have the required skills. This
will result in more time needed for the training to be completed
and will cost the company more since it takes the trainer and
materials out of production for the duration of the training time.
On-the-job training can often cause distraction of the regular
working day which can affect productivity.
If employees are not introduced to the safety features and
safety precautions are not taught prior to entering the job field,
there could be injuries
oftentimes on-the-job training is rushed and that can cause a
negative effect on productivity.
ROLE
PLAYING
 A learning technique in which
participants act out scenarios under
the guidance of a trainer. This type of
training can create a safe
environment for employees to build
confidence in their abilities to
succeed in their jobs.
Why use role-playing games in corporate training?
 Highlights current skill levels
 Prepares participants for real-life situations
 Increases confidence
 Develops empathy
 Develops problem solving skills
 Reduces errors
Improves team building and social skills (UKessays. 2016)
(a) describing to trainees a set of well-defined behaviors
(skills) to be learned.
(b) providing a model or models displaying the effective use
of those behaviors.
(c) providing opportunities for trainees to practice using
those behaviors.
(d) providing feedback and social reinforcement to trainees
following practice.
(e) taking steps to maximize the transfer of those behaviors
to the job.
BEHAVIOR MODELING TRAINING (BMT)
Behavior modeling training (BMT) involves the following five
steps:
Paul, M. (2021, November 24). Umbrella Summary: Behavior modeling training. Quality
Improvement Center for Workforce Development.
Paul, M. (2021, November 24). Umbrella Summary: Behavior modeling training. Quality Improvement Center
for Workforce Development.
Why is BMT valuable?
BMT is valuable because it has positive effects on
various learning outcomes, including attitudes (e.g.,
self-efficacy), knowledge, skills, and job behavior.
An apprenticeship is a program in
which an individual is paid to learn
skills and real-life work experience from
an expert professional or craftsman
with the promise of employment in the
specific industry the individual has
trained. There are many benefits to
participating in an apprenticeship. The
apprentice earns money, skills,
certifications, or degrees, and the
employer receives an expert-trained
employee who is instantly ready to be
productive.
https://study.com
What are the most popular apprenticeships?
Many industries have apprenticeships; however, not
all apprenticeships are publicly known. There are
many types of apprenticeships, but the five most
popular fields that provide apprenticeships are:
1) Business, Administration, and Law
2) Health, Public Services, and Care
3) Retail and Advertisement
4) Engineering and Manufacturing Technology
5) Construction, Planning, and Built Environment
https://study.com
Vestibule or Simulated Training
https://www.qandle.com
 Vestibule training, also known as
simulated training, is a type of
training that involves creating a
simulated work environment for
employees to practice job-related
tasks and skills. It is often used for
jobs that require the use of
specialized equipment or processes
that cannot be easily replicated in a
traditional classroom or on-the-job
training setting.
Examples of Vestibule or Simulation Training:
Training in the kitchen is the most typical
example of vestibule training.
Pilots and flight attendants are trained by
airlines using simulators, and astronauts are
trained in mimic space crafts.
High-tension wire workers are trained properly
before getting into the actual fieldwork.
https://www.qandle.com
A simulation based learning environment offers a safe way for
organisations to help their employees can pick up the vital skills
needed.
This type of training is so effective as it takes into account
several of the learning styles preferred by different learners.
Not everyone learns visually, or through auditory materials, and
simulation-based training also considers the needs of
kinesthetic learners who flourish through practical exercises.
https://www.qandle.com
https://www.indeed.com
 Off-the-job training refers to an
education method where employees
learn more about their job or the
latest advancements in their field at
a location away from their
workplace.
During this type of training, employees
express their views and opinions and
explore new ideas to bring to the
workplace. Before the conclusion of
the training, employees typically
receive some form of evaluation.
The lecture method, also known as the
transmissive method, is based on vertical
learning, whereby the teacher has all the
knowledge the know-how which they
transmit to the students. The students are
considered to have everything to learn. Any prior
knowledge they may have, their motivations and
their personal plans are not really taken into
account.
Lecture/Discussion Method

https://www.indeed.com
Audio-Visual Training Method
The use of various media
such as films, television,
video and presentations.
In the corporate world, customer care center
employers often administer this type of training to
their employees to teach them how to interact and
behave with customers.
Teletraining is training that
 usually conveys live instruction via
telecommunications facilities,
may be accomplished on a point-to-point basis or
on a point-to-multipoint basis, and
may assume forms including teleseminars, a
teleconference, or an electronic classroom,
usually including both audio and video.
Teletraining or Teleconferencing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teletraining
A Teleconference or telecon is a live
exchange of information among several
people remote from one another but linked
by a telecommunications system. Terms
such as audio conferencing, telephone
conferencing, and phone conferencing are
also sometimes used to refer to
teleconferencing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communications_system
The case study is a method of sharing
descriptive situations with the goal to
stimulate the trainees to think and make
decisions to successfully accomplish their job
tasks, apply and develop new ideas, manage
or improve processes, and solve problems at
work. This method takes on a practical
approach.

Osnes, P. G., & Adelinis, J. (2005). Correspondence training, rule governance, generalization,
and stimulus control
Correspondence Training
Correspondence training is a set of procedures in which an
individual states a behavior to be exhibited, usually in
response to a question, and reinforcement is delivered if the
behavior is subsequently exhibited.
Correspondence, then, is the agreement between the
antecedent statement and the consequential action. It can be
defined as the exhibition of the target response at a time and
place distant from the initial statement and the successive
provision of the reinforcer for corresponding.
Coaching and Mentoring
ushfar.com/article/mentoring-vs-coaching
Mentoring: The Definition
 A mentor is someone who
shares their knowledge,
skills and/or experience, to
help another to develop and
grow.
Coaching:
 A coach is someone who
provides guidance to a
client on their goals and
helps them reach their
full potential.
Coaching and mentoring are
development approaches based
on the use of one-to-one
conversations to enhance an
individual's skills, knowledge or
work performance.
ushfar.com/article/mentoring-vs-coaching
Technology-based training (TBT) is a type of
instruction that uses technology to deliver
content and promote learning.
It can take many different forms, but all TBT
involves using some technology to support the
delivery of training content.
Common examples of TBT include webinars, e-
learning courses, and virtual simulations.
Technology Based Training

Multimedia Training
Multimedia learning describes learning
through the use of pictures and words.
Examples of multimedia learning include
watching a PowerPoint presentation,
watching a pre-recorded lecture or reading a
physics textbook

E-learning Method
https://nesslabs.com/distance-learning-e-learning-online-learning-virtual-learning
 E-learning means electronic learning.
An interactive learning application on a tablet not
connected to the Internet would be considered an e-
learning application, even though it is not online.
E-learning doesnt need to be remote.
That same e-learning application we just described could
be used onsite by students in a classroom with the help of
their teacher.
E-learning simply focuses on the digital aspect of
education.
https://nesslabs.com/distance-learning-e-learning-online
Distance Learning Method
Lets start with the simplest concept: distance
learning simply means that educators and
students are in a different location. It doesnt mean
the instruction is necessarily delivered online.
In 1728, the Boston Gazette published an advert for
Caleb Philipps, Teacher of the new method of Short
Hand, seeking students who wanted to sign up to
receive weekly mailed lessons.
In 1858, The University of London was the first
university to start offering distance learning
degrees.
The only thing worse than training your
employees and having them leave is not
training them and having them stay.
 Henry Ford
