Local participation / active citizenship. There is always a way to improve the local reality.! The local community contains a resource of skills, ideas and a need for  improvement. Depending on the community, there is often a lack of venue for local people to  engage in a real meaningful and creative work. The modern habitation with fragmentet cities, weak local identity within  the social units, and individualisation is undermining natural interaction  amongst people. Improving the levels of involvement in the various stages of a project,  the outcomes are more likely to suit local circumstances, ensure  community 'ownership', and increase the sustainability of a project. Interaction amongst people needs a venue. The venue can be an event,  a public space, a club, service center, a project and etc. A project, where people make a product together and improve the local  reality together, for the benefit of themselves, their children and  neighbours is very rewarding.

An outdoor education facility will benefit the children. It is a project in the nature,  to increase nature learning and devotion towards nature, to enhance play and  recreation of young people. Goals that most people can agree on. Even though an outdoor education facility is a public property and usually funded  with public funds. It is better to have it as a community projects, established with  finacial support from the municipality or funds. The official apparatus is often  recieved with hesitation and lacks support from the community. Have the project benefit as many as possible, an outdoor education  facility is also a public space, playground or a meeting point. Public  ownership. It is important to have the project, or parts of the projects relatively  small scale, despite grand ideas. Grand ideas can rule out support and  are usually be met by disbelieve. The work has to fit the skills and capacity of the community. The work  has to be creative, meaningful, exciting, fun and done in a calm tempo,  …at least most of the time.
Local participation / active citizenship. Managing the project. The school and the parent organisation are well defined units with good  communication channels. The school itself can sometimes come across as the parents opponent. So it could  be better for anchoring the project within the community to have the parent  organisation as the project „owner“. The establishemnet of an outdoor education facility is an environmental  and a social project for the benefit of the young people. Creates  goodwill and support. Since the outdoor education facility is a “school ground”, it will be a  collaboration project amongst the school and the parents. A succesfull  project can also strengthen that relationship. It is important that a project manager is carrying out the project, it can  be project group consisting of represantive from the school and the  parents and even local Ngo. Apply for financial support.
Local participation / active citizenship. Identifying the participants. Locate the people that could have the resources or extra time to be involved. The participation will start slowly, and increase by the success of the project.  Identify local resources, or parents that could help the establishment of  the project. Many are proud to help, and gain local recognition. Document the process and put it out for other to see. Have the work as  a family event. ..who wants to miss an local, free family event.? Ask parents directly for participating. The “sign your name on the list” is  not working. Make the people say “no”, unless they have a good reason,  most people say yes. Make sure there is tasks for everybody, from the highly skills ones to  the less skilled.

Have short working sessions in the start.  There has to be level of leisure atmosphere, family recreation during the session.  Identify local resources, or parents that could help the establishment of  the project. Many are proud to help, and gain local recognition. Lay out the tasks for each working session so there is immediate visible  results. Have the tasks fit the participants. Make sure there is tasks for everybody, from the highly skills ones to  the less skilled.
