The document describes different types of computer systems: desktop systems, mobile devices, and servers. It provides details on desktop systems, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and servers. Desktop systems are stationary PCs with components housed under or on a desk. Laptops are thin, portable computers with a screen and keyboard that can run on battery or be plugged in. Tablets are touchscreen devices larger than phones but smaller than laptops, and rely on batteries. Smartphones are small mobile devices that fit in the hand and have integrated technologies like cameras. Servers are dedicated computers that provide services like file storage, printing, and hosting websites to other devices on a network.

2. Desktop System
? This is a personal computer designed to be in
a stationary position, where all its
components fit on or under a desk or table.
? Comprises a box that houses computer
components, a monitor, a keyboard, a mouse
and other peripherals (printer, scanner etc)
3. ADVANTAGES
1. Generally, has more capacity to increase
specifications if needed (more memory, faster
processor etc)
2. Isn¡¯t easily stolen and generally not as fragile as
other devices.
3. Larger screen, keyboard and mouse allows for
easier data entry activities (word processing,
spreadsheet, email)
DISADVANTAGES
1. Not mobile like a tablet or laptop.
2. Uses office space
4. Mobile Devices
Laptop (notebook)
? This is a thin, lightweight mobile computer with a
screen in its lid and a keyboard in its base.
? Can operate on mains power or can be powered
using its battery.
ADVANTAGES
1. They are mobile
2. They have a larger screen than a tablet and a
physical keyboard for easier typing.

2. They can be stolen easily.
3. Can be difficult to customize (add memory and
graphics card.
4. Reliant on battery working if away from power
source.
6. Tablets
? Usually smaller than a laptop but larger than a
phone.
? Contains a touch screen and doesn¡¯t contain a
physical keyboard.
? Is reliant on working battery but can be used
plugged into power.
ADVANTAGES
1. Can be mobile
2. Can be directly connected to internet (SIM Card)
3. Functions can include video and photo options
4. Generally costs less than desktop and laptop.
7. DISADVANTAGES
No keyboard or mouse, so data entry is slower.
Easy to damage
Small so easy to steal
Restricted software available.
8. Smart Phones
? This is a computer device small enough to hold in your
hand (screen 3-5 inches).
? Most mobile devices can access network and internet
services.
ADVANTAGES
? Very mobile
? Access to internet (WiFi and 4G/5G)
? Technologies like camera, GPS and video integrated.
DISADVANTAGES
? small screen and keyboard to enter information.
? Has restricted software options.
9. Server (computer)
? This is a computer which is dedicated to providing
one or more services to other computers or
devices on a network.
? Services provided by the server include;
- Providing username/password security access
- storing and sharing files (File Server)
- Providing access to printers and other
hardware (Print Server)
- Can host websites and other web resources
(Web Servers)
- Storing and managing emails (Email Server)
