It aims to investigate human impacts on species' existence and survival, develop practical approaches to prevent species extinction and protect biological communities and ecosystem functions, and study and document all aspects of biodiversity on Earth. Conservation biology is developed to confront various threats in order to protect species and ecosystems.

Lanskap harimau terkelola: Lanskap dimana selain telah dinaungi oleh suatu Unit Pelaksana Teknis (UPT) dari KLHK, juga memiliki investasi sumber daya (pendanaan dan program) yang ditujukan khusus untuk konservasi harimau sumatra, yang meliputi dan tidak harus terbatas pada: monitoring populasi, perlindungan populasi harimau dari perburuan, dan/atau tim mitigasi konflik. Lanskap harimau belum terkelola: Lanskap dimana masih memiliki/dihuni oleh harimau sumatra, bisa berada di bawah naungan UPT KLHK atau tidak, tapi belum (minim) memiliki investasi sumber daya untuk konservasi harimau sumatra.
