This document summarizes the results of a survey of 8,000 Europeans regarding their perceptions of major US tech giants and their impact in Europe. The key findings include:
- Over 65% of French respondents believe US tech giants like Google and Facebook have more power than the European Union.
- Around 75% of French think the tech giants compromise democracy in Europe and do not fairly compensate artists for use of their content.
- 88% of French support new EU rules to ensure artists are paid for content distributed online by platforms.
- 80% of French think platforms should pay media companies when reusing their articles, photos and videos.

Survey conducted online from the 24th to the 30th of August 2018.
Sample of 1 000 people representative of the French population aged 18
and over, among a European sample of 6 600 people representative of the
population aged 18 and over in Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece,
Italy, Poland, Romania and Spain (1 000 in France and 800 in the other
countries).
Quota method and adjustments applied to:
sex, age, socio-professional category / incomes, living area.
