Cotton was used in the Old World at least 7,000 years ago and evidence of early cotton threads have been found at the site of Mehrgarh dating back to the 5th millennium BC. Cotton cultivation became more widespread during the Indus Valley Civilization between 5,984,000 BC to 3,412,550 BC when cotton was an important crop.
