Counseling is a process that aims to help individuals solve problems and prepare for the future. It involves a counselor assisting a client to interpret facts and make choices or adjustments needed. Counseling in social case work was introduced in 1932 to help release a client's inner burdens through discussion. It is used as a technique to prepare clients to participate in treatment plans. While counseling and case work share the same objectives of helping clients, counseling differs in that it does not provide concrete aid or view the whole client, and is not agency-based like case work.

Counseling?
Counseling is a psychological help which can be
given outside of the agency. In counseling, no
solid help is provided. Only guidance is given to
solve ones problem.
Counseling aims at enabling individuals to solve
present problems to prepare themselves for
future tasks, to attain higher standards of
efficiency and well-being and to develop personal
resources for growth.
