Crowdsourcing is the process of outsourcing tasks traditionally performed by employees to a large, undefined group of people through an open call. It was coined in 2006 by Jeff Howe in Wired magazine. While not a new technology, crowdsourcing allows processes to be completed faster and cheaper by tapping into the knowledge and labor of online crowds, as demonstrated by Gopher Labs.
