Bess Ho developed the Dancing Drum app as the first in a planned "Dancing Series" to utilize the iPhone's accelerometer for musical games accessible to all ages and skill levels, but its initial release was buried due to inexperience and bad timing; she now seeks to improve on the app and expand the concept through consulting work and additional titles in the series focused on dancing and music.
The document discusses innovation and small enterprises. It defines innovation as the creation and implementation of new ideas, methods, or products. Innovation is an important competitive advantage for small enterprises due to their flexibility. While small enterprises have limited resources, they can still innovate through collaboration, sharing ideas, and implementing innovations in a cost-effective manner. The document provides examples of companies innovating through improving processes, adopting new tools and expanding into new markets with limited budgets.
Coral reefs grow through a process of asexual reproduction called budding, where they start in shallow tropical waters and expand outward. Coral reefs are home to many fish and protect fish habitats while also providing camouflage. Though considered an underwater plant, coral reefs are actually animals that provide nutrients like protein and calcium to fish. However, coral reefs are in crisis due to threats like diseases and tourism, as tourists may take pieces of coral which can damage the coral colony. Donating to conservation organizations can help protect coral reef ecosystems.
- The document discusses various probability concepts including disjoint events, complementary events, counting principles, tree diagrams, selection with and without replacement, and possible outcomes of multi-step experiments.
- It provides examples of calculating probabilities of events occurring, such as the probability of sums when rolling dice or coins showing certain faces when tossed.
- Questions are posed about whether scenarios are possible, like certain state territories, and definitions are given, such as what the continental divide is.

The document discusses business model innovation and provides tools and frameworks for identifying and improving business models. It begins with an example of a company that improved its business model for waste water treatment systems. It then guides the reader through exercises to describe their own business model using templates that outline the key components of a business model including value propositions, customer segments, revenue streams, and core capabilities. The document emphasizes the importance of thinking outside the box and provides various examples of companies that innovated their business models.
The 2009 swine flu outbreak was caused by a strain of influenza virus that was believed to have undergone genetic mutation. While it contains genes similar to viruses that typically infect pigs, this particular strain was spreading among humans. Symptoms of swine flu included fever, sore throat, coughing, and general discomfort. A comparison of mortality rates for different influenza outbreaks showed that the 2009 swine flu strain had a mortality rate of 2.6% as of April 2009, which was higher than typical seasonal flu but lower than pandemics such as the 1918 Spanish flu or the avian flu.

This document provides an update on the Palm Harbor Manufacturing Division. It summarizes the status of various factories including their locations, production capacities, and current production levels. It also distinguishes between modular and HUD code manufactured homes, and provides market share and production statistics for Palm Harbor Homes and Nationwide Homes. Finally, it outlines some of the uniqueness and marketing support provided by these companies.
Randy Moss had an illustrious high school and college football career where he set numerous receiving records. He was drafted 21st by the Minnesota Vikings in 1998 and had immediate success, setting the NFL rookie record with 17 touchdown receptions and being named Offensive Rookie of the Year. Moss spent seven seasons with the Vikings where he established himself as one of the league's top receivers before being traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2004. After two seasons with diminished production in Oakland, Moss was traded again to the New England Patriots in 2007 where he has re-emerged as an elite receiver, leading the league in several receiving categories.
Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) are galaxies with incredibly bright cores that release more energy than most galaxies. It is believed that at the center of AGN is a supermassive black hole that feeds off surrounding stars and gases, and in the process releases huge amounts of energy in the form of x-rays and gamma rays. Studying AGN gives insight into black holes and ancient galaxies in the early universe.
The document discusses three levels of design for human activities: reactive, proactive, and emergent. The reactive level involves solving problems with existing systems. The proactive level focuses on developing new systems for defined activities and users. The emergent level jointly designs new human activities and enabling technologies. Different methods are applied at each level, from task scenarios and walkthroughs at the reactive level to future scenarios and stakeholder simulations at the emergent level.
Pascal's Triangle is an array of numbers arranged in triangular form where each number is derived from adding the two numbers directly above it. To generate the triangle, a chart is made where the terms are found by taking the binomial coefficients of n over r, and properties include that each row has one more term than the previous row and the first and last terms of each row are always 1.
The SMS Platform (SMSP) is a platform used to design, create, and manage SMS-based services. SMSP version 4 provides several key features including increased performance and stability, a redesigned web tool for usability, and new value-added service actions like reconfiguring, pausing, and resuming services. It also allows running ballots and prize draws for participants.
The document discusses augmented reality as an innovative experience medium rather than just a tool, highlighting various applications and examples such as virtual tours and interactive storytelling. It mentions the Layar platform, which enables developers to create layers of augmented content and provides insights into its growing usage across different regions and brands. Additional resources and tools for developers are also provided to facilitate the creation of augmented reality content.
The document discusses expected value and how it relates to probability. Expected value is defined as the average outcome over many trials of a random process. For rolling two dice, the expected value is 7 because the average of all possible outcomes is 7. Expected value can be calculated by multiplying each possible outcome by its probability and summing the results. The document provides an example of calculating expected value for drawing bills from a hat containing different monetary amounts. The expected value provides the average outcome that would be expected if the process was repeated many times. Percent error refers to the difference between an actual average outcome and the expected value from a probability calculation.
