Reflections • Cohort 8- The students of Cohort 8 of Commonwealth Executive MBA program offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka carried out a Community Service Project at National Cancer Institute Maharagama as part of their assignment in the Strategic management Course Module. • This event is also in memory of the Late Professor Sudatta Ranasinghe, Senior Lecturer of Management Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social sciences, Open University of Sri Lanka - See more at: http://www.dailynews.lk/?q=features/how-cohort-8- cuts-cancer#sthash.pUIfRao4.dpuf
- 9. • The entire project incurred a cost of Rs. 500,000,which was covered by sponsorships and individual contributions. • This has been a threefold purpose event: Donation of essential and revamping of facilities of National Cancer Institute Maharagama Wards 3 and 4 • Items donated to the hospital and Activities included essential drugs, pedestal, wall and ceiling fans, medicine trolley, sponge mattresses, carpets, macintosh sheets, mats, chairs, stationeries, painting of lockers and beds.
- 10. • The Media sponsors were Rupavahini, Derana TV, ANCL Lake House and ITN. The Endeavor was powered by SPMC, Muslim Aid Sri Lanka, SLT, Hemas Hospitals, Fire X projects, Piramal Glass, Bank of Ceylon and Hands International.

IPM –MBA • The students of MBA in HRM Batch 03 of the Open University of Sri Lanka wanted to extend their gratitude to the brave men and women of the armed forces, who have been injured whilst on active duty in a different way. Batch member Retired Capt. Chaminda Wijesekera, who himself had been injured during “Operation Safe Passage”, suggested to the batch to implement a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) project at the RVS (Ranaviru Sevana) in Ragama, where he himself had been a patient.

Success!! • On Sunday 23rd March 2014, a “Mini Motor Parade” organised by the batch mates in partnership with “Mighty Mini Club of Sri Lanka” will start from the 80 Club, Colombo 07 and proceed to Ranaviru Sevana, Ragama and raise funds by way of “hat collections” • The estimated cost of the project is approximately Rs.850,000/-.

- 19. • June 16th visited Vijaya Kumaratunga Memorial Hospital(WKMH) from the Open University • The following day visited to Ehiliyagoda District hospital for a follow up of the program, and then we saw how the people with a “new life” were enjoying with their relatives. • The lenses as well as other surgical equipments were donated by the batch with the help of some donors.

This is all about learning by understanding by helping others, because you have been given a chance, a rare chance to be a human. Cohort ten of the Open University has utilized this “rare chance” by demonstrating their excellent talent team work, sense with subject knowledge.
