A garment factory building in Dhaka, Bangladesh collapsed on April 24th 2013 killing over 420 people. The eight-story building was illegally constructed beyond its intended five stories, and had visible cracks on the seventh floor. Hundreds of garment workers were inside at the time of the collapse, as they feared losing their jobs if they did not go to work. In response, the Bangladeshi parliament introduced new reforms aimed at improving safety standards for employees in the garment industry.
