Professional Experience and Achievements A1+ (Colas) & RPS Group PLC 2008 to 2016. In the last 6 years, I have worked for A one+ integrated highway services, as a Landscape Manager/Architect. As part of small environmental team, we must be dynamic and versatile to deal with a wide range tasks. These tasks include dealing with the public and other professions on various issues that arrive from the soft estate on Highways Englands Area 12, which is over 650 miles and around 1500 hectares and consists of woodlands, urban sections, grasslands etc. Area 12 has routes though National Parks, SSSIs, AONB etc. Which we work with to find suitable solutions to deliver work and schemes that are in keeping with their surroundings. Recently we have been working on schemes that provide connectivity along the green estate corridor, between designated sites. I use Micro soft office, Auto Cad and Arc Gis frequently on day to day activities, the latter is use as a database called ENVIS which we record data into and use for research. I coordinate much of the Lump sum budget on green estate activities, by indentifying and delegating works that arise from customer complaints, which has been a challenge over the most recent years due to budgets being tight. I have worked on numerous small to large highways environmental schemes in the past 8 year, indentifying, design and implementing work. Highways works can be very dangerous and I have undertaken and passed numerous Health and Safety Training Schemes that are aimed at identifying and eliminating risk on Highways work. RPS group plc 2008 to 2010. As Landscape Architect/Manager for RPS group plc I worked as part of a small team on assignments for one of the Highways Agencies Area12 (1500 plus hectares).I identified and resolved any environmental concerns arising from Highways development and maintenance within the area. Issues resolved related to Landscape design, Ecology, Arboriculture, Contract management and Management of Maintenance. Enabling work to be completed to relevant environmental standards. Fresh Landscape Design (2001- 2008) Successfully established a sole trader landscaping business, providing a variety of Soft landscaping and Hard landscaping services to a mixture of commercial and private customers: Design and build projects - ascertaining client requirements, developing plans and specifications, delivering agreed design to cost, quality and timescales; Ad hoc jobs including tree work and general garden maintenance. Established a regular satisfied customer base with many repeat work orders and requests for work from word of mouth references. This has included regular contract landscape groundwork for Charles Lawrence Group, a global synthetic sports surfaces company. The Old Rectory (1998 2001) Restored formal grounds within a two-acre site from neglected overgrown gardens to owners complete satisfaction. This mainly entailed completion of several Design & Build projects, the design and completion of planting schemes, with other landscaping and general restoration and maintenance work. Thornbridge Hall (1997-98) As part of a team planned and commenced the extensive restoration of formal and informal gardens/grounds within an estate of around 30 acres. Progress, entailing extensive use of heavy plant equipment, was achieved as per the Completion Schedule. Chatsworth Garden Centre (1992-97) Manager of Stoneware area 1995-97: Managed a team of up to 4 staff responsible for the day to day running of this prestigious retail operation. Under my management the Garden Centre returned to profit. I achieved this by selective product offerings with appropriate margin mix, improving customer satisfaction and staff motivation whilst managing tighter cost control. Assistant Manager of plant area 1992-95: Ordered and maintained plants to meet seasonal sales plans with minimum wastage. Provided customer advice by developing a broad knowledge and interest in plants. Developed a successful specialist plants partnership product with Hilliers, meeting both tourist and refined/ professional landscape gardener customer needs. Emery Landscapes (1987-92) Commenced work as a Trainee in hard and soft landscaping, maintenance and tree work. Initially specialised as a climber, on several Forestry and Local Authority projects Secured permanent position and Played major role in growth of company, from 4 to 12 staff. At which I am a 17 Handicapper and am asked questions by the course committee. I enjoy being out in the great outdoors golfing or walking my dog taking in the environment as I go. Recently I have discovered graphic design, which I find a great way to pass the time, to express and convey my ideas. At the present time I am renovating my garden, which I have designed and am building it from reclaimed materials; I also plan to introduce an ecological planting scheme to increase biodiversity and create a sense of place.
