Chelsey Castiglione is a Biological Anthropology major at Humboldt State University expected to graduate in July 2013 with a minor in German. She has conducted several academic works including an artifact analysis of the William S. Cherry Collection exploring tool use of tribes in the Belgian Congo, an ethnographic study of athletic motivation at Humboldt State, and research examining the ability to recognize emotions from facial expressions with increasing technology use. Her primary research interest lies in primatology and evolutionary implications, hoping to study primate behavior to better understand human evolution.

Cherry Collection; Tribes and Uses of tools in the Belgian Congo 2012 This archaeological artifact analysis explores the Los Angeles Natural History Museum's William S. Cherry Collection in attempt to better explain the lives of tribes in the Congo River Basin. This collection was gathered from 1890 to 1900, so ethnographic information from tribes of this time was used. Only those items known to be from the Congo were used in this study. The photos from the collection were not analyzed, but were used in investigating the other artifacts. Humboldt State Jacks: Just do it? 2011 This ethnographic study was conducted by me to investigate athletes and athletic motivation amongst members of the sports community at Humboldt State. Of the over 80 participants wide varieties of motivation occurred but the main differences were between genders and sports teams. Facial Expressions and Technology; An Evolutionary Look at our Changing Society 2012 In this biological research project, I examined the ability to recognise emotional intent behind facial expressions in comparison to use of technology. A survey of technology use was administered to over 100 students. Following this participants described the emotions expressed by a series of photos depicting the seven universal facial expressions. Bonobos in Modern Struggle 2012 I wrote this literature review to analyze the diminishing Bonobo population in relation to this unstable areas history. A comprehensive plan to increase their population must include helping the local people who depend on them for a food source. - 2. My primary area of interest lies in primatology and the evolutionary implications of the study. In a Louis Leaky fashion, I would like to study primate behavior to better understand our closest evolutionary relatives.
