WORK EXPERIENCE
Clinical Systems Trainer – 03/2016 –
My current role requires me to train various different staff groups throughout the hospital, both clinical
and clerical. Due to my previous clinical background I was asked to concentrate on training a large
group of nurses who had not been trained in the new system at the point of go-live. I arranged a block
group of training sessions and delivered these over a number of months to clear a ‘back log’. I had
developed all the training materials and had extremelypositive feedback regarding the quality of training
delivered. I am currently in the process of arranging a similar process for the administrative staff
throughout the trust. My role required me to learn all apects of the new system – so I knew the full
‘patient journey’ and am able to link all modules together to understand how works.
Clinical Systems Developer – 01/2015 – 03/2016 (Secondment)
I was seconded to the IT departmentin January 2015 to a role within the inpatientnursing module. My
role required me to visit various different groups ofnursing staffthroughoutthe hospital to design and
develop electronic documentation as partof a new electronic patientcare system (EPCS) for use
throughoutthe hospital.
Developmentofthe new EPCS required me to regularlymeetwith senior members ofAlder Hey
managementfrom a nursing background and also managerial, and presentwhatI had developed and
listen to their feedback, comments and criticisms and make anychanges needed based ofthis.
In the build up to the system I was required to deliver additional training to nursing staffin various parts
of how the new system would work. This was done on a 1:1 basis byattending differentlocations in the
trust, and also in a lecture theatre with up to 40 staff attending. This was delivered via a power-point
presentation followed byan interactive session demonstrating keyareas of documentation screens.
During the launch of the new system I was part of a supportteam that worked flexibly over a 24 hour
day to deliver full supportto clinical staff and answer any queries theyhad. I would also take away any
suggestions thatstaff had about the documentation screens thathad been developed and discus s these
with the team and for through the relevant channels to ensure thorough documentation was recorded for
any changes thatwere subsequentlymade so thatstandard operational procedures (SOP’s) were able
to be amended appropriately.
