All helmets must pass the strict Cyclechic criteria of being safe, comfortable and of course stylish! Page 1: Bern Page 3: Nutcase Page 4: YAKKAY Page 5: Sawako Furuno Page 6: How to measure your head Bern are an American company who specialise in action sport head protection, pads and apparel for the skateboard, ski, snowboard, bike, kayak and wakeboard community Bern helmets are available in 2 options: the EPS or the Hard Hats. Both use the same ABS high impact shell. The difference is in the inner lining of the helmet: EPS The EPS is using the standard foam as on any other cycling helmet. It's hard foam which can take only one severe impact as the EPS foam cells will crush completely. Were you to drop your helmet on the asphalt for instance, you would need to check for cracks and if there were any, replace the helmet altogether. The Bern EPS helmet has the following certifications: CE EN1078 for cycling, CE EN1077 & ASTM 2040 for snow, CPSC for cycling and skating. Hard Hat The hard hat uses patented foam called Brock. This foam was developed by Bern, as they wanted to offer a multiple impact helmet to their athletes. The Brock foam will act as a cushion on small impacts as it is more elastic than the EPS foam. Bern also tried to improve the breathability of the helmet and the Brock foam gives an improved air circulation and sucks moisture from your skin, keeping you cool and dry. Please double check the sizing on each product page for the Hard hats as we may have altered it according to that particular batch. Bern is using a foam called Zip Mold which is their patent- pending liquid injected high impact foam fused to a tough polycarbonate shell. It means that the foam is seamless, tapered and thinner and therefore ultra light, which is ideal for the little ones. The Zip Mold helmet has the following certifications: CE EN1078 for cycling, CPSC for cycling and skating & ASTM 2040 for snow. Nino Nina http://www.cyclechic.co.uk/
- 3. Nutcase helmets use the same EPS technology as the Bern helmets. As before, this is the standard foam for cycling helmets. The outer is an ABS injection shell. The Nutcase helmets have the following certifications: CPSC & CE EN 1078 Multi Sport Standard Safety. Nutcase are a lightweight helmet and are well ventilated making them a good summer helmet. Size wise, the Nutcase helmet is conveniently adjustable by using foam pads. You get 4 foam pads of differing widths with the helmet and they Velcro on and off so you can find the one that fits you. The S/M helmets covers 52-60cm heads and fits most adults.
- 4. Interior of the helmet showing the removable pads. Now all you have to do is choose the pattern! Yakkay helmets are using the standard EPS foam. What makes a Yakkay helmet unique compared to others is that is a helmet base with interchangeable hat cover that simply slide over the top: suddenly you are not wearing a helmet but a hat which becomes an accessory to your outfit! The Yakkay helmet meets the European CE EN1078 standard and is waiting for the USA CSPC certification. Size wise, you will have to measure your head to as Yakkay helmets come in small, medium and large. You can also adjust the helmet to your head with a number of adhesive foam circles which have the added advantage that air can circulate between them. When you are riding your bicycle, air will be pushed into
- 5. the helmet, and pleasantly cool down your head. In addition, your head will stay dry in rainy weather, as the covers are designed without open holes. The hardest will be to choose the cover! - 6. How to measure your head Step 1: Place a tape measure round your head ensuring it covers the widest point at the back of your head. Step 2: Run the tape Measure round to the front of the head so it sits just above the ears on either side.
