GPT
We assessed GPT-3's creativity on Guilford's Alternative
Uses Test and compared its performance to previously
collected human responses (…)
Our results show that -- on the whole -- humans
currently outperform GPT-3 when it comes to creative
output. But, we believe it is only a matter of time before
GPT-3 catches up on this particular task.

Creative Confidence
David Kelley – Founder of IDEO
Anyone can approach the world like a
designer. Often all it takes to unlock
that potential as a dynamic problem
solver is creative confidence.

Why is creative confidence important?
What blocks you from being creative?
• Learning & habit (‘correct’ responses, routines)
• Rules & traditions (restrictive rules)
• Preceptual barriers (biases, mental models)
• Cultural barriers (social confirmation)
• Emotional barriers (anger, fear, anxiety, hate)
• Resource barriers (time, implementation restrictions)

Emotional barriers
Neuroscience research has shown that
uncontrollable stress leads to worse
performance on creativity tasks
high social-evaluative threats decrease

Psychological safety & fear of failure
Fear of failure is a huge obstacle for creativity
It manifests itself f.e. in:
• Fear of being judged
• Fear of rejection
• Fear of getting started
• Fear of the unknown
Kelley, Tom and David Kelley; Creative Confidence: Unleasing the creative potential within us all. William Collins, 2014
Do you recognize this?
Think of a situation in the past month
in which you wanted to be creative but
didn’t because you felt some kind of
fear of failure: embaressment, fear of
being judged, etc.
How to overcome you fear?
So, if we know fear of failure
is a huge obstacle for creativity,
then, how can we overcome this fear?
Guided mastery
Failure is the only option!
A person who never
made a mistake never
tried anything new.
Failure & Learning
The real measure
of succes is the number of
experiments that can be
crowded into 24 hours.
