Summary:
A Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellow, with seventeen-years of educational leadership
experience in science and natural history at the Kalamazoo Nature Center, is seeking a
secondary biology education position in the Kalamazoo Public School system. The
Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship presented me with internship opportunities to
teach in high-need environments, such as, the Kalamazoo Juvenile home and to intern teach
an entire year of ninth grade biology for Kalamazoo Central High School. My hope is to
blend my secondary science teaching in the schools with the my knowledge of my
communitys after-school educational resources, to assist high-need students in being
science literate and to connect them to opportunities for success and growth in our
community, while understanding the connection that science has in their lives.

 Taught traveling educational programs for elementary and middle school clients that
were aligned to meet State of Michigan Grade Level Curriculum guidelines.
 Enhanced program offerings that served our users needs and trained teachers and other

 Directed educational programs and maintained contracts with Sturgis and Centerville
schools at Camp Fort Hill, Portage City Parks, and Kalamazoo River Valley Trail System.
 Prepared and implemented over 18 programs for Portage City Parks and increased park
program participation 60%, in my second year.
 Customized programs and learning experiences for each unique park site and trail
sections that was requested by the different organizations.

Nature Up-Close Camp, Kalamazoo Nature Center, Kalamazoo, MI.
 Managed and organized a nature and science themed summer camp program for an
average of 900 campers, ages 3 to 17, during an 8 to 10 week summer.
 Established, prepared contracts for services, and guided multi-day wilderness
backpacking trip for teenagers to respond to a need in our summer program offerings.
 Interviewed, hired and evaluated over 200 college age staff during ten summer seasons.
 Planned and assessed a $133,000 camp programs budget.
