1. PROFILE
Since 1983 Danny Morris has developed extensive experience in the social care and health 鍖elds.
Much of this work has been in substance use and has included development and delivery of detached
community work with homeless drug users; outreach HIV and HCV prevention and NSP to hard to
reach groups and management of comprehensive drug treatment services. He has experience
working as a commissioner in the Drugs/HIV/BBV 鍖eld.
As his experiences over the years have evolved, his understanding has informed an ongoing
commitment to the development of progressive and evidence based practice that enhances all
aspects of drug treatment provision, effectively engages users into treatment, reduces drug related
harms, in particular the reduction of blood borne viruses, enhancing access to testing and treatment
options and supports individual development and optimises outcomes . His work strives to meet the
diverse needs of service users focussing on access to digni鍖ed responses, human rights and drug
user involvement.
He is an accomplished trainer and has, for over eighteen years, been providing training specialising in
harm reduction practice and theory and treatment interventions. He operates both as an independent
consultant and in close collaboration with other established freelance trainers and researchers,
working with organisations to produce local, national UK and international guidance that supports
delivery of effective harm reduction interventions with an emphasis on improving injecting related
practices, reduction of BBVs and overdose and enhancing access to naloxone. He was the
development training lead for the Welsh Assembly Government National Take Home Naloxone (THN)
Programme and facilitated training across community and prison settings. His work is underpinned by
and extends to the delivery of tailored team building and organisational work that supports the
management of constructive change to maximise bene鍖ts of service delivery.
He was commissioned by Correlation II European Network Social Inclusion and Health in partnership
with the Eurasian Harm Reduction Network as a project manager and consultant developing a
Hepatitis C Treatment and Care training manual targeting ministries of health, policy makers, heath
care professional and harm reduction workers with a focus on enhancing testing and treatment for
injecting drug users across Central and Eastern Europe. This training programme is now being
delivered across Europe and has recently been translated into Russian to support capacity building in
Russian speaking countries and more recently into Spanish and Catalan.

2. He has contributed to and written published articles and guidance and presented at numerous
national and international drug related conferences. He is an Associate Lecturer at University of
Worcester, UK ; previously a director of, and now steering group member of the UK Harm Reduction
Alliance and a member of Harm Reduction International.
Until December 2015 was the Operational Manager for an NHS Drug and Alcohol Treatment Service
with strategic responsibility for providing a range of practical, health and therapeutic recovery
focussed interventions for drug and alcohol users. Responsibilities included ensuring service delivery
in-line with strategic objectives, involve initiating new work programmes, integrating drug and alcohol
treatment provision, embedding a recovery focus across treatment domains to enhance drug and
alcohol treatment outcomes, establishing a trained volunteering programme and being the
organisational lead for service tendering as part of drug and alcohol services re-commissioning.
Danny is the Expert Lead for the RCGP Certi鍖cate in the Detection,Diagnosis and Management of
Hepatitis B & C in Primary Care. He was a professional member on the Public Health Programme
Development Group (PDG) for the NICE guidance on Hepatitis B and C and more recently represents
the RCGP in the development of the NICE clinical guideline for Hepatitis C. He sits on the steering
group of DrugWatch , an informal network of charities, organisations and individuals working in the UK
drug treatment 鍖eld set up to 鍖nd a way of creating information to complement Early Warning
Systems that is of a practical use to drug workers and drug users. Our main aim is to promote a
standardised way of recording and reporting concerns about new or adulterated drugs.Danny is one
of the key members of the England Naloxone Action Group (NAG) which was set up in late 2014 to
press for wider availability of naloxone in England. Danny has co-authored Hep C Care: Living with
hepatitis C and Treatment Options, which was Highly Commended for the 2015 BMA Patient
Information Awards.
Danny lives and works on a community farm where he has key roles and responsibilities for dairy
milking and farm machinery maintenance.
