This document announces a Faculty Development Program (FDP) on "Data Science and its Applications" to be held from October 5-9, 2020 at the Central University of Tamil Nadu. The FDP aims to provide faculty members, research scholars, and students an understanding of basic data science concepts as well as hands-on experience with machine learning algorithms using Python. Experts from IITs, NITs, and other institutions will speak on introductory topics, advanced methods like deep learning, and case studies. The FDP seeks to help participants choose research problems and pave way for future work in the field.

ABOUT CUTN The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) is located in Thiruvarur, a region of cultural and historical significance. The university functions with quality infrastructure facilities in two campuses set in a serene atmosphere in the Neelakudi and Nagakudi villages in the Cauvery delta region. In spite of the recent origin, and a humble beginning with a single course and few students, the University has established itself as an academic centre of excellence in different streams of education within the last few years, attracting students from far and wide. The University offers post graduate, integrated M.Sc., M.Phil. and Doctoral Programmes in various subjects through twelve schools. The University atmosphere offers a creative and multi-cultural learning environment for the students with dynamic curricular and extracurricular activities. The University also opens up space for expert learning through collaboration with State and National level institutions of academic excellence. ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF COMPUER SCIENCE The department of computer science is one among the science departments that offer M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in computer science. The department was started in the academic year 2016-17. The department is equipped with five faculty members with doctorates and they are actively involved in research besides teaching. The curriculum is designed to meet the standards expected from the IT industry and also facilitates to aspire research. The department offers a choice based credit system. The students are evaluated through a continuous assessment system. To join the UG, PG and Research programmes, the candidates have to attend the All India CUCET entrance examination. CUCET stands for Central University Common Entrance Test. Every year, CUCET is conducted by a consortium of central universities. CUCET is conducted at over 65 centers across the country for admission to various programmes. ABOUT FDP Data Science and Data Analytics is the buzz word in industry and is driving many researchers to produce promising solutions to the challenging real world problems. This field of computer science has been the active locale of research due to its wide varieties of industrial applications. This programme will facilitate the faculty members, Ph.D. research scholars and P.G. students in understanding the basic concepts of Data Science to a wide coverage of advance topics. The FDP also facilitates some hands on sessions in python to implement Machine Learning algorithms. In addition, the FDP creates a pavement for faculty members and research scholars to choose their research problems.
