EXPERIENCE
University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada June 2013-Aug 2013
MITACS Globalink Design & Research Intern
(Award Recipient among 5% of 5000 applicants from India, China, Brazil and Mexico)
 Improved the efficiency of Auger Reactor (used to produce bio-coal from wood waste) by delivering the inlet mass flow rate &
combustion temperature required to increase the production of solid bio-coal over less preferred liquid and syngas form
 Developed 3D CAD model (using Solidworks) for auger reactor and simulated multi-physics (heat, turbulent flow & chemical
reaction) phenomena for multiphase flow by using Computer Aided Engg. (CAE) packages (Hypermesh & COMSOL Multiphysics)
ACADEMIC PROJECTS
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
 Battpack: A removable battery pack-cum-stand for any phone(Course: Integrated Product Development) Sept 2014-Dec 2014
â–ª Led a cross-disciplinary team of 6 students (Business, Arts and Architecture) as product development lead to develop a portable
mobile accessory (compatible with iOS and Android devices) which could charge the phone and serve as a phone stand.
â–ª Developed product ideas, tested them using surveys and conjoint analysis, generated CAD models (using Solidworks), and further
made numerous prototypes and final product (using 3D printing and CNC milling).
â–ª Received moving feedback from trade show attendees, where people found a "value proposition" in our product.
 Robotic Manipulator which could write on paper (Course: Hands-on Robotics) Sept 2014-Dec 2014
â–ª Built a robotic manipulator (in a team of 4) which could draw squares and mark points on a paper (kept at different orientations)
â–ª Designed (using Solidworks) and constructed (using Rapid Prototyping) the bot and wrote the inverse kinematics code (using
Python) to locate robotic arm. Calibrated the bot. The bot’s best attempt in competition ranked 2 among 4 teams
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi
 Prototype Development of a remote controlled chalkboard duster Feb 2012-May 2012
â–ª Led an interdisciplinary team of 6 engineers (CS, ME, EE) to work as a small firm & develop a RF remote controlled chalkboard
duster which could erase specific area on chalkboard. Brainstormed designs; conducted market design review; used DFMEA,
poka-yoke, DFM/DFA to finalize design (incl. material selection using CES, making BOM, etc.) and headed manufacturing of
the product. Presented the working model at open house event
LEADERSHIP
Founder, GearedOx Technologies LLP Feb 2012-June 2013
 Founded a startup (with a professor at IIT) with a vision of Bridging the skill-gap between academia and CAE industry
 Developed business plan for the startup with team of 4 members and stood among top 25 Indian Startups at Masterplan 2012;
B-Plan competition conducted by IIM Ahmedabad (among top 15 best business schools in the world)
 Led the team to organize university workshops, including a 4-day long national level workshop on Computational Fluid Dynamics
which altogether brought in 60 students, faculty and industry professionals generating immense goodwill and a revenue of $12,000
SELECTED PUBLICATIONS
 Sharma, D., Jain, S., Kapila, S., Sinha, N., Vaish, R. (June 2014). Semiconductor material selection for unipolar switching devices
(International Journal of Materials and Product Technology (Hindawi); Under Review)
 Sharma, D. & Azad, S. (June, 2013). Selection of India’s energy resources using fuzzy VIKOR method (Presented at International
Conference on Sustainable Development, Toronto, Canada (Aug 2013) and published in Int. Journal on Sustainable Development)
SOFTWARE SKILLS
