Lena's mother committed suicide when Lena was six years old after becoming infected with "Love", which drove her insane. Doctors were unable to cure her mother through three procedures. Lena grew up believing this story of her mother's death by love and that she too would be killed by love unless cured. The story questions the narrative Lena has always believed about her mother's suicide and her own fate.
