This document provides guidance for healthcare workers on recognizing, diagnosing, and treating dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). It discusses the signs and symptoms of DHF, including fever, headache, rash, liver tenderness, low white blood cell and platelet counts. It emphasizes the importance of monitoring for warning signs like vomiting, abdominal pain, and mottled skin, which indicate potential capillary leaking and need for hospitalization. At the hospital, frequent vital sign checks and hematocrit measurements are crucial to guide fluid management during the critical leakage phase in order to prevent shock without exacerbating bleeding or effusions. With proper supportive care, case fatality rates for DHF can be reduced below 1%.
